Can you fix an inaccurate fuel gauge? with out replacing the unit itself...

I have a 2004 GP GT. Ever since I bought it back in May 2013 the gauge was never accurate and If it seemed like it was I never trusted it, haha.

Wasn't too sure if I could pull out the pump and maybe clean something that might be gummed up or is replacing the fuel pump/sending unit the only cure?

You can change the sending unit which is attached to the pump. They cost around $20 on rock auto.

Your welcome. You got the right idea. Just look around and try to find the best deal. I seen one on here for sale but that was a few months ago.

Mine has been reading completely full, empty, and 3/4 for the past few months now, it'll just randomly change from one to the next. Kinda sketchy, maybe I should fix it.

It's a pretty easy job, I've done 2 so far. Hardest part is usually getting the retaining ring off the unit on the tank. Oh, unless there's no access panel in the trunk, then dropping the tank will be the hardest.

Man, my car that I'm restoring has the same ****ty symptoms. GM couldn't make some parts a little better? I had to change 2 fuel pumps on my Sierra and from what you guys are talking about, the Comp G.. ****ty deals
