so i talked to reptile a few days ago thinking that maybe my sc bearings were going bad but when i described the noise i was hearing he said that it doesnt sound like anything with the sc. so he suggested that i remove the sc belt and spin all of the pulley by hand to see if any of them drag, so i did and none of them do and i am at a loss here.

i cant pinpoint where the noise is coming from and it doesnt quite sound like a ps pump going out cuz its not that sort of groaning sound that it would make when it does or even when i turn the wheels. so i took a short video, has anybody had this sort of noise before?

the car is a 97 with 145k.

all i do know is that it IS coming from that side of the motor but cant tell if its from the front or back

its been getting on my damn nerves that for sure. when i see another 97 gtp and its quite as hell and then there mine making all sorts of noise its not only a lil embarassing, but frustrating

i havnt touched it since i got it a few months ago except for yesterday when i thought i would check it out just to be sure. when i seen it was all the way to the top full i thought strange but havnt thought much about it

well even if i take the belt off and it doesnt make that noise it still doesnt tell me what it is, just mean that something on the acc. drive has a problem you know. but ill still try it just to be sure that it isnt something internal like the timing chain or something.

when you take the belt off spin all the pulleys by hand and see if any of them don't feel right. Or with the belt on take a mechanics stethoscope and touch the cases of the components. Like the alternator case and PS pump if you can get to it. Disclaimer though, careful the engine has to be running to do it this way, so there will be belts spinning. and don't hit any moving parts with the stethoscope, your ears will thank u.

If you want to find this.. go to sears or harbor freight, local parts place...anywhere. Get a stethescope. It's well worth $10-20 bucks.. ever want to pinpoint a noise..that'll do it.

Harmonic balancers can go bad....I'm not sure what kind of noise they make when they go bad though...just a thought
