I've got a 99' GTP w/ an 01' L67 & a recently busted 99' tranny(Car wouldn't shift or start, & would roll in park). I'm wondering if I can use the base 4t65e cuz its way cheaper & it would give me the 3.29 gearing. I was thinking I could use the HD parts from my bad tranny if I need them.

Can I get away with this or do I need the 4t65eHD? & do I need a certain year, I hear GM switched to quick lock lines on the tranny in 99(mine are threaded)?

Isn't the "HD" differential the only difference besides gearing?

I'd still contact Dave and ask. He might be able to tell you what your problem is on your current one, and it might be fixable saving you a **** ton of time and labor.

Yeah that is the only diff. Oh and when you swap in the non hd trans you need a different axle for the differntial side.

Some 1997's had a vacuum assisted transmission. The early 1997's. My 1997, and the GF 1997 do not have this transmission.

I have a 2001 tranny in my 1997.
