Cam?

IR II IP IDEATH

Oxymoron: Civic - Fun
How much trouble is it to change a cam in my car? and about how much? I just love the sound it makes the car have. Could a fairly good with engines buddy of mine be able to do it??

its not too bad and if you look around the web a couple different people have done write ups.

basically you have to take the lower intake off to get to the lifters. you need the lifters out to be able to take out the cam. then once you get that far you take off the front cover, remove the timing set, pull the cam thrust plate, and pull the cam out. from there its just reversing the process and making sure all your gaskets are sealed up nicely.

It's probably more than that...you'd have to have clearance to get the cam out...plus you gotta figure the cam is what...another 6" longer or so on V8 car at least? I'd bet you would either have to...

A) Yank the motor...

B) Remove all the crap from the passenger side of the motor...and drop it out that way...by lowering the cradle...etc.

Also...to cam a LS4 car...pretty sure it HAS to be custom tuned...since you have to delete the D.O.D. in it...worth it? Maybe...but for the money you can go just as fast with a 50 shot if not faster.

i thought with LSX's you needed to take off the heads....

OR you can buy the lifter plate that holds the lifters from falling when the cam is removed.

On the LS series engine the lifters are actually under the heads. luckily u don't have to remove the heads to do a cam swap. simply remove the pushrods, and gain access to the cam. give it a spin and it'll move the lifters up high enough that they will settle in the lifter trays. hop on ls1tech. plenty of info for anyone to do The cam swap

Nitrous is only illegal is they can see it and its hooked up...its easy to hide spray. We hide it from tech all the time at the local strip...

You want a cam sound...for free? Yank a plug wire off.

Pfft...I've got over 20psi at idle now warmed up...20-30 actually. Just needed some thicker weight oil and it was golden. BTW...my idle is set at 650.
