Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

cam decision

So im going cam like this month, at the end of this month

I live in cali so emissions suck. I was told by zzp that i would pass on the vs and that "the xp might make it hard to pass".

Im not going IC anytime soon for cost and the fact you can see it. and smog guys wont pass me on the visual.

I want mid to low 13s, I dont plan on getting a new trans anytime soon due to cost, so its a stock trans.

so xp or vs?

they will fail you because of the lope, which is what they're saying. you can pass a sniffer test with a full, catted exhaust easily.

honestly for mid 13s i would go with rockers, not a cam.

im like .2 off from 13s as it is, i thought about the rockers but its about the same cost, and i do run a full cat'd exhaust sadly....

and i'll gladly take faster than 13.5 lol, i just dont want to have to buy a new trans any time soon

Full catted exhaust? Which adds nor takes power away...unless you still have a factory cat/u-bend.

Either way it goes, you will be needing a trans. at some point. A stock trans will die behind (or next to in this case) more power. Making more power translates to upgrading everything else that puts that power down to the wheels. I hate to see someone get a motor built up just to have the trans. take a dump 3 weeks later and then wonder why.

You may be safe for a while since it probably won't be beat on constantly, but I would start saving for a good built trans. for when the time comes so there are no surprises.

no i have headers and a 3in down pipe, i would just be nice not to have to worry about a cat, the law in cali changed to where you have to run a factory cat, so even though i have one, since its from zzp its not "legal" lol so stupid

even when i go to the track, i dont do burn outs, no slicks no point, and i dont spin the tires on the launch i do my best to roll into it, which is why my 60s suck, best is a 2.1 on RSAs. i thought i read somewhere that the stocker trans can take about 350whp? and im pretty sure im no where near that or will be lol

Nope...stock transmission can take more...or less. People kill these transmissions on N/A cars...with what, 170ish wheel horse?

Don't drive like an idiot...you'll be fine. For your setup though...I would recommend at least a shift kit, pan drop, new fluid/filter at the time of the cam swap. I ran a bone stock transmission...with 305 w M/T ET's at the track hammering it off the stall and it just grabbin and goin. Sub 1.9 60's all night. Massive burnouts to heat up the slicks as well. I wasn't nice to it at all...and it held up just fine. Only thing I ever did break in it...was shred the HD diff...and just tossed in another one while doing a pan drop to get some of the metal shavings out. I had XP/Headers/3.25"/LS1 TB/Tune...and a bunch of other junk.

yeah its needs to be done 82K on it and as far as i know it hasnt been done, what where your times on that set up? and where you IC'd?

No, only times I ever put down at the track were low 13's...with the XP, 3.4", headers, basic DHP tune with raised shift points and the p0300 code removed...stock TB/blower/trans/heads...trapped 104-106 every pass

I'd never buy a used cam if I could afford new...but what do I know, it was all on a budget...I'm running one that had about 5k on it LOL
