CAI in Ohio

I live in Ohio and it snows a bit. Would putting an intake on with no box be a safe thing to do considering all the salt on the roads during winter?

Because I'm paranoid, is there something I could do to put something between the ground and the intake?

You don't need to block off the ground from the intake. Your car won't be shooting salt up into your intake. And even if it did, the filter is meant to block big sh*t from getting in lol

Okay, thanks guys. It's summer anyway, so I have plenty of time to rig something up if I decide to block it off somewhat. I just get paranoid lol.

95% of use just have the cone filter in the open air of the bay, no box for it. ive yet to have any problems, snow/rain or anything else.

just pick up a cheap filter at autozone and bolt right on to the Throttle body great 30$ mod

^see how it is? pretty easy lol

or add 8 more bucks for a pvc elbow and a coupler. then you can paint it any color you like.

yeah, i got some drill bits. i dont like the toss it in the filter idea at all. only thing i see coming from that is broken wires.

yeah ive been there, i wore through one of my wires, and grounded it out. my scan gauge said i had an intake temp of 264*F lol
i cushioned it with electrical tape and its been fine since.

in that picture i actually have the sensor sitting out on top of the filter, also bad idea i melted it on my headers later on lol

that sensor been through a lot but it still works somehow

the filter has a 4 inch hole, and a 3 inch spacer as well. ( at least my specter did) the tb is about the same size. a bit smaller.

if using a pvc pipe, you need to get one where the next pipe fits into it. the 4 inch side is the fat side of the pipe. the thinner side fits almost perfect to the TB.

i used a 90 deg elbow, a 45 is more desired, i was unable to find one so used this one.

this is how i painted mine too. sand it up first, scrape the mold lines off it for looks, ( i used a razor) paint sticks better if its scuffed up some.
