CAI-- Catback-- pulley ???

98IndyGP

New member
I recently bought a 98 Daytona Edition Grand Prix and was wondering which CAI and pulley to run? Also I've really been wanting to install a cat back exhaust. I like the looks of the SLP one with the quad tips ( very cool). what do you guys think? It's my daily so I don't want to go to radical. Any help you guys could give would be greatly appreciated.

I really wouldnt drop pulley size until you get a scanner to monitor your knock retard. As for as CAI, i myself got a wizaired CAI. Works fine a guess....most will say to just make your own however. But ya read that link it has everything you need to know about modding 3800's. As far as catback its up to you. Choose what you like and hear what others say from personal experience. I haven't heard SLP, but i have magnaflow mufflers that i really like. Post some pics of the daytona! Have a couple members on here, including myself, who have the 98 daytona as well. Welcome!

read that thread, buy an autozone cone filter and slap it on the end of the TB, buy the zzp cat back and down pipe IMO it sounds good and i can run KR free on a stock pulley and a stock tune

It would be wise to do a little bit of research and browse threads before throwing any money at the car. Youll save yourself some serious dough that youll wanna spend elsewhere. Im sure youre all giddy about modding and aesthetics n such, but be patient, do your research and do it smart. Thats the best advice i can give. Good luck and post pics!

Thanks for the advise twol8uluz. I seen the mods you have done on your car at the bottom of your post. I bet your car runs really good!

one of the best mods to do headers, cai make your own fenderwell if u want, colder plugs, & 180 drilled T-stat for beginners. Great way to start the mods and a scanner for KR. then you can start dropping pulleys safely also run 91oct or whatever you have over there 93?. as far as the catback goes you gain very little hp for what they cost so mainly for sound, imo put your money on the above first. just make sure the car is running good as it is now and all fluids are good..

headers are a must if you want serious power (i.e. above 275bhp) otherwise if its your DD just get a downpipe a scanner is a must also period. personally if you drive the car in a colder climate i wouldnt get a lower tstat

Lol, actually i havent updated my sig in almost a yr. But mines a dd, at first i wanted to go all racekar with it, then i started reading around a bit on here. Decided not to mess with the engine, and keep it as reliable as possible.

eh honestly ya **** the downpipe and plog and just go with speed daddy headers. Idk why people bother with them cus headers are only 220,the plog downpipe together is 300+.

Actually people opt for the the PLOG and D Pipe because SD and SSAC Headers are considered "Ebay junk" by most vendors and the good name headers run $600+ so the PlOG and D'Pipe together cost about half that. Most performance sites for our cars don't suggest the SDs because they aren't the high quality kind so for base flow they suggest their cheap parts.

But truthfully, they are just as good on fitment and if you don't mind them turning and burning and losing the polished prettiness over time they will work and last just as good as the high priced headers for 1/2 - 1/3 of the price. Compared to buying 1 set of SLP Headers you can replace the whole setup 3 times and still have money in the bank by using the SD or SSAC Headers.

i dont know man all i know is you should be good to run a 3.4'' pulley on a L67 with a DP, intake, PLOG, canned tune.

i know its pushing it but that set up should work right? and stock plug heat range

Umm... sure. Try it and let us know how many runs you get before it breaks something.

"I know its pushing it".... ya. Kinda like saying you can put a 3.0" pulley on it and be good to run. You may only get 1 good run but it still works. To do it safely and properly, you need a full header and downpipe set so you can flow out the extra air you suck in, and you need a good tune. Not all canned tunes are worth the $$$ and some have caused problems just on their own. Need a pro dyno or pro custom rolling tune.

Every car is different, so the major factor is scanning for kr. Im running a 3.4 pulley with a reptile tune plog downpipe with a CAI and l04's with no knock at wot.

Speed Daddy's - great fitment don't piss around with anything else unless another 20HP is all you want from the GP - in that case go with a 3" Downpipe only.

right and no a 3.4'' on a gen 3 m90 isnot that extream idk if id be KR free at WOT on a overkill tune but id be under 2* at the shifts im sure
