Burning rubber or spinning tires

Hey my first 97 Grand Prix SE, 3800 series 2, automatic, wondering how you all burn rubber in these baby's?
I see some people smoke there automatics for 10 15 feet or so. What do ya do, keep the car in nuetral while raising rpms (if so how much rpms?) then slam it in drive, Or hold the brake while raising rpm's (if so how much rpms?)then releasing brake. My 5 speed oldsmobile quad 4, I can smoke when ever I want, but just don't know on these automatics.

push in the ebrake all the way. stomp the gas with the traction control off and hold on. when ever you want to start rolling let the ebrake out.

Do that, and I'd be surprised if you car still drives.

That's the basic idea to launching. Usually you want to get it up near 2k RPMs.

Don't do this much though. Your 97 SE has the 4T60E which is weaker than the still somewhat weak 4T65E in 98+ GTs and SEs. The GTPs have 4T65E-HDs which features a tougher differential against things like burnouts.

To many burnouts with your transmission (all it takes is one) and you'll get this:

The main killer is when you get one wheel moving a lot faster than the other (or one wheel not moving at all). Gears score the pinion shaft and either the shaft fails or the gears fail and it all explodes through the cover.

Ok I am not gonna try it, Thanks, I just see people burning there rubber in automatics and was wondering how they do it.

Ok I'll try it, hey didn't mean to start up anything here, just wondering how people are burning there rubber and spinning there tires in automatic's.
Didn't think one time, once in a while, would be a prob, or do much damage if there was a right way.

Not to be a dick, but if you aren't going to bother backing up what you say, then you have no right to be arguing in the first place. Posting your opinions would allow members to decide who is more likely to be correct. What you're doing accomplishes nothing.
 
^^^ That's a good point. To often I see people ask a question and get hassled, or two posting members get into it. If someone asks a question..such as one I remember..Can I put blue lights on my car...don't make fun of them or harass them.. A well informed answer is all their looking for.

My opinion on the burnout...I tried it out once with the ebrake trick and my car started doing some wierd stuff...so I bailed. If you can't do it with the gas alone...I say stay away. And if you don't have the money to replace broked parts...well at least you know how, so when you have the confidence or the money...you can give it a shot.

You are all right as far as I am concerned thanks for the point's, I left this thread on while I went to work yesterday and my wife read it, so when I got home she had this mean snarling look on her face, so I decided to back off on the burning rubber Idea. Thanks gentlemen.

Did the e-brake thing on My GT once. Fun for the moment. No need to do it anymore. Seen quite a few blown apart diffs from it. Leave the burnouts for the old school hot rods. Just hit the gas and go.
