Broken spring

Drive XR7

New member
I'm always posting new broken **** with this GP. I'm so mad with it. Fix one thing, another thing breaks.

I pulled into my driveway and heard a huge clunk. It was coming from the rear. I pulled the wheel off and found this:

The spring is broke. Rubbed up against the tire but not enough to cause significant damage or puncture it.

I will replace both rear struts to get it over with. I would rather not mess with a spring compressor -- I've read Monroe has an all-in-one spring/strut assembly. I've never done this job before, so not entirely sure what I'm getting into. Tips? Is the standard Monroe quick-strut a good replacement part?

Quickstrut should be fine. I think you need a wratchet wrench to get to the top strut bolts inside the trunk as they're in a not so nice spot. Other than that PB Blaster the crap out of all the bolts a few days prior and away you go.

Replaced both rear struts over the past 2 days. The first side was much harder than the second. I couldn't get the bolt to budge out of knuckle, after pounding on it with a hammer and air hammer. Eventually I got it out, but the bolt started to bulge since I was banging on it for so long. I had to grind it back down to get it back into the knuckle. The second side was a piece of cake, no major issues. Thank god for air tools.
