Broken Rear Manifold Stud...

Fastener stud between the crossover and the rear manifold snapped...

Anyone have experience with this situation?

My next attempt will be with a razor blade across my wrists.
 


IT SUCKS!!! when it happened to me, i replaced the rear manifold. We tried to heat it, drill it, easy outs. replacing the whole thing was the easiest option
 
There is no way in Hell I am taking the rear exhaust manifold off... From what I've seen, you should then start learning how to extract studs from engine blocks, lol.

Plus, it's impossible to get back there.
 
taking the rear manifold off really isn't that hard. spray the bolt with some liquid wrench and let set over night then spray again in morning then wait an hour and break the bolts loose. people take the rear manifolds off all the time to install headers
 
Drill it all the way through with a concrete 3/8"drill bit and put a bolt and nut on it.

Concrete bits have a carbide tip and will drill about anything.
I broke mine at the crossover and in the head when I install my headers. It can be fixed but patience is a Must.

This is a good idea, we never thought to use a concrete bit, the bolt and nut was our original plan

Or we can look as this as a good time to install some headers, Just like stated above soak the rear bolts in liquid wrench or PB blaster penetrating oil. then remove the front dogbones, then ratchet strap the motor forward to make plenty of space to reach the rear bolts.
 
Be sure to run the motor to get it hot before removing the bolts. Don't apply steady torque to the ratchet, use a quick pop of the ratchet to get the bolt to break free then take it out. I found out the hard way that steady torque will break the bolts off in the head.

I just thought of something...

Shouldn't I be able to just put a nut on the back side of the stud, and hit it with my air ratchet until it pops out???
 


Cross over to rear manifold? Smack the stud downward (that's toward earth). The nut on the backside will break free and then just nut and bolt it back together.

You're pretty good at breaking stuff huh? You are on the right forum.
 


I drilled, drilled, drilled, and then drilled for days.

Finally I gave up and hired a mobile mechanic. $75 when he got it done.

Popped out within 5 minutes of him drilling...

Baby Jesus deserves to cry.
 
LOL.. I had a similar issue when I got my first 3800. I tried it all, mechanic buddy stops over, takes the air hammer and in 45 seconds it popped.
