Broken engine bracket

Last night I discovered this engine bracket is broken. It snapped where it bolts to the block. Passenger side dog bone mount. Part #24506488 is stamped on it. I was trying to boost my car and I normally use that piece as the grounding point. I have not driven my car for one month and discover this.
I can get another one from either a salvage yard or gm dealership. quick search shows me gmpartsdirect.com quotes me $46
What I want to know is what caused this and how to prevent it from happening again.

had the same exact thing happen on my old GT. I think its power related or mounts. It occured after i had my poly mounts in and after i did a bunch of mods. They say you can switch to the cast aluminum one from the GTPs.

do you know the part number for those?

I ended up getting a new (used) one from a pick n pull yard. Funny story though, was walking the up and down the rows of cars, came across a guy that needed help lifting a ecotec engine onto a cart, helped him, he paid me $10, that was more then enough for the bracket I was getting.

After installing the bracket I know why it failed. I don't have that other black bracket that goes from it to the exhaust manifold, took that one off after installing the PLOG. Now I need to make another trip to the pick n pull yard for the black bracket as the orignal went in the garbage. silly me

I found the problem!!!! Its ZZP fault, the PLOG flange was welded on backwards and when I was installing it a bolt snapped and its the one for the black steel bracket that I need to keep the aluminum bracket from snapping.

So now its going to be a pain in the ass job of removing that snapped bolt from the engine block.

That makes alot of sense now,i also remember removing that black bracket. Glad you figured it out and good luck getting those brackets.

I've had decent success removing them. Pull the plog off and see if you have anything to grab. If not.. right angle drill and an reverse/easy out is the way to go. .

is this broken bolt near the side of the head, or the edge of metal. heating the area around the bolt up till cherry red can sometime help break it free.

man does the exhaust tick loud when first started up but then it goes away for good once things warm up

The bolt is all torn up now, was not able to get exactly on center when drilling into it and the extraction bits just stripped the hole eventualy when enough torque was applied to them. If I had a way to heat up the bolt that might of helped but I didn't. So now its just the drivers side upper engine brace remaining.
