• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Breaking endlinks in half violently

Frosty

I Write E85 Stickies
I have moog poly endlinks on my doorman front sway bar. They are the black coated ones with white bushings. Extremely firm and feel wonderful. I love them. Only problem is that they tend to snap in half when cornering very aggressively. I have tried overtightening and undertightening them with the same result. The only way I can keep them together is to replace the center bolt with a hardened bolt from the hardware store. Obviously its fairly violent when it happens and the car becomes very loose which can be a tad dangerous while cornering at 70+. Ask me how I know.

Anyone else have this issue? I just snapped a week old endlink today.

Of youre lowered you need to just a bolt and the bushings without the center portion. It helps tremendously. To getthe sway bar level with the lca

yeah, your sway bar is preloaded when lowered because of the incorrect length of the end link.

i have the same issues with my V.

Sorry to thread jack, but would Vogtlands warrant the smaller endlinks? They're not that much lower than stock, that's the only reason I ask.

look at your sway bar position. it should be level with no preload on it when the car is sitting on the ground.

I had a pair of those same end links snap on me as well. I wasn't lowered and had literally just replaced everything in the front end. I ended up putting the rubber ones that came with my swaybar (gmpp) on instead. I was kind of disappointed that I didn't have poly bushings anymore but so far they've worked fine.

The bar is basically always preloaded unless you use one adjustable link which is adjusted when the car is in "racetrim" with a ballast for the driver, and the average amount of fuel you typically have.

Even then, it'll be at zero preload for that one specific condition. Have more people, preload changes.

The bar being parallel to the ground is for correcting the angle at which the bar acts on the lower control arm. The closer to 90*, the higher the mechanical advantage, making the bar more effective.

Some instruction on the procedure: http://www.powergridinc.com/pdf/Powergrid Adj Links Installation Instructions.pdf

If the OP is breaking bolts, perhaps the grade 5 bolts they likely come with aren't up to the job. Consider grade 8. Another consideration would be using more spring rate instead of relying just on the sway bar.

Seems someone has already purchased Powergrid links for an 04-08 Grand Prix: http://www.powergridinc.com/swaybar_price.asp#Anchor-Pontia-56952
