Don't base stopping on a little tab of metal making noise. We often don't do inspections etc and rely on noise makers that have been engineered into the systems.
What if that warning system designed to help the uneducated car person fail?
Pull your wheels and inspect your brakes please. If something is telling you they are high mileage etc, take the moment and check it out visually.
i know people who wait till there's a harsh grinding noise when the brakes are applied, they just ignored the squealers, i would ask, didn't they squeal for a while, they say yeah, then it started to grind, like metal to metal. and how long ago did it start to squeak? they say, oh 3 weeks ago.
so now your new brakes will cost you double.
pull the wheels and check them out, all 4 wheels, after 70,000 miles im sure they are all low on the pads.
got ya, but thats still high for brake pads. in my truck used to change them every 13 to 14,000 miles, the stock pads did go to 35 ish, but after that it was every year, but i drove it a lot, like 3,000 a month, oil change every month too, sucked for sure.
To the OP , please take the time to either remove the wheels from the vehicle and inspect your pads and rotors, if not take it to reputable place. The wear indicators are not full proof for your brake pads needing replacement. If you've got 45,000 or so miles on them they could be at about half worn if not more.
Also brake pads do wear differently from car to car,and person to person due to braking ,type of vehicle ,how much you drive your car and where (I.E stop and go city) and how much the person applies the brakes to their vehicle....
