hey guys just have a few questions on painting my brake callipers. 1st of all im thinking yellow (black car with yellow gtp badges, yellow pontiac on the back and yellow grand prix on the trunk w/torque stars) do you guys agree? im not usually a fan of black and yellow but it makes my gtp a little different and its growing on me. 2 what paint do you guys recommend getting for painting them? 3 how would u guys suggest painting them? I think it would be a nice cheap thing to do on it to make it look a little nicer.

Yes, it looks good. Seen it a few times.

Secondly...any high temp paint will work...

Third...prep is key...removing them and bleeding the system would be the best way. I'm lazy and left it all connected...jsut removed the rotors and pads and taped it off and went to town.
 
Same way you'd prep anything else for paint...clean it very well.

And no, like I said...anything high temp works.
 
x2 on prep. used regular non-hi-temp-bullstuff paint and it holds because i took my time cleaning and priming my calipers.
 
When I did mine I had them sandblasted, stupid black coating on the fronts was just chipping when I tried to sand it clean and would have came out horrible. Yellow will need a solid white or grey base primer, I would look into high temp engine primer so it sticks and stays, then paint yellow in multiple light coats so it gets a good yellow, not a dark faded ugly yellow. Then clear with clear engine enamel and let dry then go for a spirited braking drive so you heat them up and bake them nicely.
 


i didnt even take my rotors off haha.
i took my wheel off, sprayed my calipers with brake cleaner, let them dry, taped off my rotor and just sprayed. came out fine.
 
Yup.

If you're also wanting a cleaner look...clean and spray the rotor hat as well that the wheel touches.
 


I removed all 4 calipers and rotors, wire wheeled all of them until it was down to bare metal. (the front calipers had paint still on whereas the rears were just all rust. Rust was easier to remove) Then sanding is the next step depending on how clean you want them to look, spray them with brake cleaner to get all dust and oil off, then paint with high temp, oil resistant paint. They make caliper paint, and engine enamel will also work. I didn't prime them, the directions didn't call for it, nor could I find a high temp primer. I've only had them for a few weeks, and they still look great. I spent a lot of time on prep though.

Also a good time for a brake system flush.
