Bought a 08 GXP...couple of questions

Hey,

I traded in my 04 GP for an 08 GXP with 92000km's on it. Love the car, but I have a few questions, as these cars seem to have a few difference ;) . I've searched the forum to see if I can find anything with no luck ( but I'm also not the brightest with computers)

I was wondering if some of the things I'm noticing with it are normal or not. It's got a full bumper to bumper warranty for the next 2 months, so I'm planning on using it if needed haha.

1)buzzing sound once key is in the ignition at the on position. Stays on all the time whether the car is driving or not, sometimes randomly goes louder for 20 seconds, then back down. Sound like a small air compressor or computer fan...Is that normal? And what is it?!?!

2) I've noticed the tranny shifts a bit rougher than my 04 GP under heavy or normal acceleration...but it's not bad at all. Just more that I can feel it shift now, where as in my 04 you wouldnt feel it shift at all. Also noticed ( I test drove two GXP's before I bought mine and that one did it too) that it requires quite a lot more throttle imput to get moving than my GP did, as if the torque converter has a higher stall or something.
3) on tranny questions...is it normal for the tranny temp to get to 212F* when driving around town normally? And have it go to 218 when I drive it a bit harder?

Last question...what is this little black box in the picture? It only has 5 wires, a ground, power right off the main power cable with an inline fuse, a blue one going to the 1st spark plug, and a green and a white wire going down into the bumper somwhere...is it factory? if Not, I might as well take it out.

Thanks,

Cris

I'm sure the GXP has a whole different transmission setup in the computer for the V8 motor. Quickly shifts, firmer etc etc. If you wanted to, I'd drop the pan and do a filter change now with new fluid just for peace of mind.

The LS4 block is aluminum and transfers a ton of heat to the transmission and thats why the fluid gets very warm. I suggest to everyone that buys a GXP to get a trans cooler, it will help a ton to keep the temps down towards 190-200 where you want them to be.

I'm unsure on the buzzing sound.

And same with that black box, I dont have any clue why one wire would go to the spark plugs and the other to inside the bumper.

Yeah, that's not a bad idea at all with the tranny cooler. Do you know what a good temperature range is for that tranny?
Maybe i'll do that and the filter change at the same time, and get it all done in one shot.

Inductive RPM pickup for after market tach?

Looks like you bought someones amusement park. I would go through that car with a fine toothed comb. Who knows what's been done to it.

I know, I'm going though it piece by piece. Everything looks good appart from those things. The dealer said he things its one of those "rust inhibitor" boxes....now, I've heard about em, and havent seen one in person, but I doubt that's what it is. haha

But yeah, I wasn't specifically looking for the GXP at first, but when there were no GTP's in my criteria for sale in the area, and I really loved the GXP's looks and everything.

Weird thing about that little box tho, I dont see any trace on the indide ofthe car of a aftermarket tach ever being installed.

Buzzing sound is probably either the automatic climate control cabin air temp sensor ( Behind the vent below ignition switch), or the fan on the factory navigation radio if you have that option. Close listen should tell you which one :)

I don't have the factory nav, so it must be that sensor. Is it normal for it to always be buzzing, and from time to time to get quite loud for lile 20-30 seconds?

I have no idea about that buzzing. But reading on here and other forums, adding a shift kit when doing a filter and fluid change is recommended.

this might sound like a stupid question, but what's a shift kit? I basicly don't know anything about automatic transmissions appart from the fact that I like manuals way better.

The buzzing isnt supposed to be loud but it's the little fan inside it that gets noisy after time, COuld you hear if it was coming from that area?

^^ Yeah, it's coming right from under the ignition. It's quiet at times, the ngets really loud as if the fans rubbing on something. TIme to change it..for $60, it's worth my sanity! haha

Thanks for the shift-kit info Guz!
