bose 4 speaker shelf question

my question is i have a 99 grand prix gt with the two speaker option. could i switch out the two speaker plastic for the 4 speaker or would i need the whole shelf .was looking inside the trunk and there seems to be a mounting spot already on the frame....thank you
 


I reckon it'd be pretty straightforward once you took one apart. You'd also need to go through the trouble of integrating a factory amp if you wanted the full effect. Honestly, I'd just pick up an aftermarket amp doing at least 50x4 and amplify what's already there (although new speakers would be nice as well). This can all be done for under 200 if you shop around and do your own installation.

i already have a jl 450/4 powering the 6.5 and 6x9 and a jl 500/1 powering a jlw6.. i want to throw in some 4 inch speakers but i want it to look clean and i only have the two speaker grilles, but someone on the classifieds is selling the four speaker wasnt sure if i needed the the entire rear panel or only the speaker grilles

Ah OK, sweet. In that case, it might be just the grilles. Probably a bit easier to just grab a whole rear shelf panel and swap it out. Is there a reason you want more sound behind you as opposed to running another set of components or coaxials in some kick panels?

i am cheap so getting rear panel from a u pull would be cheaper than purchasing a aftermarket kick panel enclosure .unless some one knows if there's a car i can find it in at the junkyard
 
Nope. You'd have to buy them, build them, or have them built. Seeing as how you don't seem to be greatly concerned with imaging, just cut some 4x6s into your center console. Works fine if you have a 98-03. Pulls the soundstage down, but down is preferable to behind IMO. Or just say screw it and run pro audio gear. PA can sound nice with patience and time... or just be loud, cheap, and easy.

All you need is a dremel or a jigsaw. They'll fit and still leave the passenger auxillary power outlet if you don't try to run anything wider than a 4x6 (I haven't tried anything bigger). Clarity will depend upon speaker selection and tuning... it'll be clear and low though. It gets noticeable with all of that sound around your feet. Perhaps you could run some tweeters on the a pillar to help raise the soundstage... might work. Are the stock sail panel tweeters still factory? Replacing those would help a lot for not much money depending upon your tweeter selection. Or, you could just grab a nice beefy component set after you save up for a while. Have a look into running active if you want a crapload of bang for your buck. All you'll need to add is a crossover, and your rear deck will be speaker-less. More bass gets in the cabin then anyway... every bit helps. However... going active takes a looooot of research and tinkering to get right. I find it infuriating... ymmv. Good luck.
