blower motor questions

Please forgive me I am not happy with this car right now!

I have fought the stuck key won't start mess today as well...

The blower motor sounded like it threw a rod through the block so I decided to swap one out that I had on a shelf from a '97 GT part out. Then found them to be different, well somewhat, I found a date on the side of the '97 GT motor that was from 2005, so it was aftermarket. I stuck it up in the housing with two of the three bolts in it (left out the rear until I tested the motor to ensure it was good) It ran great for about 20 seconds on high before it wnet POW!!! The squirrel cagemust have got up against something because it exploded and came out in chunks!!! UGH! I now have a bad motor with a good cage and a good motor with a bad cage.

Is there any way to remove and replace the cage on these?

During the explosion, I must have destroyed something else, because I now no longer have the "high" setting on the fan. I had already lost the "low" setting some time ago. Any ideas on what I may have done to the electrical system (Fuse? Relay? Worse?)

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The fan speed controller is right behind the blower motor, cooled by it, so any chunks must have just finished off you'r failing fan speed motor
