Blower motor not working on all speeds.

I have an 01 GP SE w/ manual heat and a/c. about 3-4 years ago i fixed the passenger side water leak that is common with these cars. after that i replaced both the blower motor (OEM) and the blower resistor. no problems since then until the blower motor stopped working recently. Thinking it was the contacts in the ignition switch iput in a bypass relay per Backinblack's ignition mod. that didn't help so now i'm thinking the Blower motor is bad. it doesn't work on any speeds and the #5 speed fuse is good.
 


I just replaced mine (i.e. blower motor) today. The blower resistor was fine. I had water seep through the cowl because the weather stripping was dislodged. There was an inch of water at the passenger side.
I cleaned the firewall lip and applied some RTV to weather strip before re-affixing. I removed the blower motor and discovered that it does not turn freely. I purchased one identical to my GM OEM from Advance Auto Parts ($59.99). The GM OEM motors are made in Canada. I used a multimeter to check voltage to the blower resistor and then to the motor from the resistor. Everything checked so then I knew the motor was shoddy. Given that water was leaking into blower housing, it makes sense that the motor would succumb to failure. Hope this helps. The key is to use a multimeter to check voltage drop across your connections.

i have a Mmeter. how do i check for voltage. in other words where do i put the negative probe at? do i put it on a ground?
 
First unplug blower resistor. It is a two wire harness. With the system off, take each prong from multimeter and place them onto contact leads in harness. One wire is live and the other is a ground. There should be no voltage drop when the system is completely off. If you turn the fan switch on power should be flowing through the harness. That would be good news. If this is not the case, unplug the three wire harness from the blower resistor and check for power.

thanks for the info. i'll check it out tomorrow and i'll post with an update. my guess is the resistor or the motor. thanks again.
 
No worries. Let me know. The blower resistor is quite pricy for auto climate control but much less expensive for manual climate control systems. Good Luck!
 


Pull the blower motor out and hook it to a battery if it work you know it's fine try the resistor but I once had the ignition switch be the issue for why my blower didn't work.. Sadly went all winter with no heat but got it fixed in the spring lol

thanks, i'll be pulling the motor tomorrow and checking that too. i put in a new relay for the ignition switch so that shouldn't be a problem. i still think it's the motor or resistor.
 
Good news! I got it fixed. It was a bad blower motor resistor. Works good as new again. Thanks again for everyone's help on this.
 
That's awesome. My motor ultimately failed from water entering the blower motor housing after I discovered 1+ inch of water on the passenger side.

common problem. same happened here a couple of times (i fixed it long time ago) it was like an aquarium when it rained. i put in a new resistor when i repalced the motor about 4 years ago so i'm surprised it went out. i didn't see any evidence of water leakage when i tore everything out the other day. also i have 140k on the car so as a precautionary move i put a ignition switch bypass relay in as well. thanks again for the help.
