Best suspension mods for my 40th..

GTP89

New member
Hey guys wanted to get opinions on what is the best suspension mods to run on my 40th gp. It will be built, but also a DD. As of now i have just the BMR Strut Towers and poly motor mounts, billet dog bones, billet diagonal braces, solid engine mount and trans mount, and as far as struts go i have that already i mainly want to know on sway bar, Control arms, Trailing Arms, so that i can start getting the parts since also black friday is on its way and to know what to look out for on the sale section.
Thanks in advance for the help just want to start getting suspension parts already.

Dorman control arms or Moog.

Dorman front sway bar, its solid. Better than stock bar.

Dorman trailing arms, solid design, not stamped steel like stockers.

Really so go all Dorman? I would figure BMR would be up there for there Lateral & Trailing arms look pretty damn good.

My suspension set up on my DD.

GMPP front and rear sways
GMPP Trailing arms (discontinued)
GMPP lowering kit (discontinued)
Next Level front and reat strut bars
Moog Control arms

My brothers 03
Vogtland Lowering springs
GMPP front and rear sways
BMR Trailing arms
BMR front and rear strut bars
06+ Monte Carlo SS KYB struts

Both ride very similar. Just so you know the BMR trailing arms are the largest available trailing arms. They will rub with a high offset wheel. UMI's are a nice trailing arm and are comparable to the GMPP's.

Really? I thought that UMI had the largest trailing arms.

Didnt know that I do love how they look and are adjustable though. I'm just a nob when it comes to suspension and just want the car to stay on the road lol
would going one brand on everything be best?

UMI's are about the same size as the GMPP one's. On my brothers 03 we had to install wheel spacers because the bonniville GXP wheels have a high offset and we noticed rubbing marks on the trailing arms. They would be fine on wheels with a lower offset wheel.

It doesn't really matter. You can mix and match. Price things out to see which is the most affordable way to go. BMR and UMI tend to have black friday sales. They post their discount codes on ls1tech.

Nice I didn't know that between UMI and BMR and GMPP what would be best for what part of suspension part to go with?

Since you are out here on the west coast and don't have to worry about rust I would go with the following.

GMPP handling kit
UMI trailing arms
Control arms. There are two choices. Dorman or Moog. Moogs have grease fittings for the ball joints. That is the main difference.

Also are you planning to lower the car?

Dorman/ADDCO solid front bar
GMPP Rear sway isn't bad...I'd rather say to get a SLP if you can find one...I think they're the largest ones.
MOOG EL's
Pol bushings all around
New LCA's
New Lower Mounts/Poly Upper bushings for the dog bones
Trailing Arms helped out quite a bit on my blue car, so do those.
Front and rear STB's are cheap...do those too.

Even with GMPP rear trailing arms, rear end wiggles about.

I had everything except lateral arms, ZZP LCA's and coilovers.

Still sucked. It'll be better, but suck.

Just a heads up.

Yes definitely going to have the car lowered.
Just mainly want to get whatever best handling kit I can for the car.
Dont really care on the brand that i go with as long as it does a good job at what it's suppost too.

I am assuming BMR isn't that great since no one is really on it? Lol

Lowering doesn't improve the handling that much.

Most of it is the higher spring rate.

If you want the best, buy the best, and make them better.

Buy bilsteins, make coilovers out of them.
Buy SLP sway bars or ADDCO sway bars.
Buy the HT motorsports/Held/whatever name they changed to now (seems suspicious yet?) or BMR rear end link kit. Also brace the rear subframe. It flex anyways.
Make an X brace for the rear strut tower.
Make a three point strut tower bar for the front.
Buy ZZP LCA's or invest in having your own made up with spherical bushings. Either way it'll be $500+. Don't buy anything but the newest ZZP LCA's, older ones are smaller, and more prone to breakage.
Buy a Quaife diff or EP.
Have 1500-2500 set aside for tires and wheels.

Willing to bet you won't do more than two of those things.

Coilovers at the moment not interested i have lowering springs already on KYB GR-2 ready to go in.
Slp if i can find one for a decent price never heard of ADDCO so gonna look into it.
WHich is the BMR rear end link kit?
How do i make a X Brace in the rear or the 3 point strut tower bar for the front?
Are ZZP LCA's really worth the money? i have been thinking of it for a while now just never made the jump.
Have tires and wheels already.
