? benefits of intake?

So I'm know my way around N/A cars but never had a s/c car before this one. So just to make sure I wanted to know what was the true benefit, or improvement that is made to the s/c or anything else when you add a less restrictive intake, and or a CAI. Can any of those help with the boost levels? Why is it that with just a less restrictive intake...not even cold air. My car when from silent to screamer? I know that superchargers make that scream with certain amounts of boost. Was the sound just insulated with the stock air box, or did I gain any boost? Is that good for the car..it sounds great.

a few benefits:

- sound
- better flow
- cooler air (depends)

you DEFINITELY want to put an intake on just for the sound of the blower whine. youll never look back. i doubt you got any more boost, but its more open for you to hear. more mods it just gets louder. good luck not giving into it.

I just took a pic of what I did...just got rid of crap and threw on a K&N cone that I had...it fit perfect

yeah true...no cold, but I'm hoping with the rushing air over top with my hood it helps even it out some and allows fresh air to flow around it a bit.

If you actually saw your intake air temps, you might reconsider. IndeedSS had some hard data on this.

Maybe so...it's not what I'm sticking with. Just something I threw on for now. When I'm done moving and settled here in about a month I plan on making a CAI out of the how to threads, and throwing on a shift kit and tune so I can get quicker shifts out of the tranny. Little by little. I was just curious how the s/c is affected by different set ups.

pretty close to the cross over, you know thats gonna get pretty hot. the hood problew helps to a bit, but it could deff be better performing

HAI is better anyway. leave it. flow outdoes temperature every time.

i wouldent necicerily agree. ive had that style, fenderwell, and now my wizair. the hot air intake seemed to get slugish after a little while of driving. my wizair is by far better. and with an open cone and secure tubing your problew gonna get just as good as flow, say over in the fenderwell, as compared to this set up.

I'm sure a little extra pipe for the colder air is better, but I'm sure my flow is better than that three chambered air box that was on there.

So everyone's opinion is appreciated...can anyone explain to me though the mechanics of what the flow does for the s/c and was the sound always there and insulated, or what causes it to suddenly whine.

To me is would seem that logically less restriction would allow more air, and easier work for the s/c. Therefore more air would be more boost. I know colder air contains more oxygen/volume which is even better, but does that increase boost. It seems reasonable, but with all that is needed to get more boost out of the s/c and not hurt the motor. I doubt that it really does much.

You really won't benefit much from that HAI at your mod level, a CAI would be more suitable for you needs right now. Bio your are half right, flow does outweigh temps but only when your engine is demanding enough air. With more mods and let's say for example sub 3.25" pulleys you will see more benifits from increased flow than you will from less flow and colder air.

I had that same intake setup. A HAI. I lost boost and the car did not pull very well. If you ask me the stock box was better.

I put on a Semi Fender intake and I got my boost back with some extra power.

A simple FWI will help as far as the power issue goes. You may get better MGP with your current setup, but your losing power. All my FWI consists of is a 11 inch piece of pvc pipe and a cone filter that goes into the fenderwell lol. If looks arent important, id go that route...at least for now.

cool the intake, then your actual intake doesnt matter the shape or length. open cone.

intercooler, meth, or nitrous.
