belts

I have a '99 GTP. I would like to by pass the air conditioning compressor with out having to take every thing out and putting in a substitute pulley. Does any one know of a shorter belt length that I should use to by pass the compressor and if this would work period? Would this have any negative impact on my any thing else driven by this belt?

So is your AC compressor shot? Reason I ask: when the AC comp is not running, it shouldn't really be putting load on the engine (clutch driven).

Mechguy; I'm not sure if the ac compressor is shot but I can see the pulley wiggle a bit and the noise (rattle) from it is crazy. Have been told I can have the pulley itself replaced if the compressor is still good. I am just trying to weigh my options being I have never replaced a pulley or the a compressor myself. Guess it is time to learn. Thank you for your interest.

Yeah, to be honest I haven't touched my AC compressor, but I think they have a low-profile, replaceable bearing. Also, the clutch may be shot.

Hopefully somebody else has some more insight.

gonna give it a couple days to see what other responses I get. If nothing then will start project. Will be sure to post results here.

i removed my a/c ...i now regret it seeing as when it rains and is humid outside and the windows fog there isn't jack i can do about it, my 02 cents check into bearing replacement, or just get a different compressor, i still have mine i think, and if you need one you can have it worked just fine when i took it off last summer
