Hello Everyone
I have always loved the grand prix for years and have just purchased a 1998 grand prix se
my check engine light is going off and i got a 3 code readings when i went to check it out.
p305
p0401 2'xs
p1870 2'xs
I've already changed all the plugs, wires, air filter and belt.
i must also say that i didn't know that i didn't have transmission fluid and drove from Orlando Florida to Ft. Myers Fl.
dummy move i know. what suggestions do you have for me

0401 Insufficient EGR Flow - This is typically not an EGR. it's the MAP sensor that is not seeing a change in airflow when the EGR opens. Check your MAP sensor, vacuum leaks and work your way back to teh EGR.

0305 cylinder 5 misfire. Check the coil, plug wire, plug and swap the plug wires at the coil for 2 and 5. If the misfire moves, it's the post of the coil, wire or plug. Don't dismiss that a plug may have cracked or been bruised up before the install.

Names of the codes dude.. i got most of them for ya.

When you post 0401 and I forget it's insufficent flow and think it's maybe EGR position, the diagnosis would be different. I'm pretty well rested and got laid this weekend, so I'm in a good happy mood and looked them up for ya.

any help you give will be appriciated. im leavin to ny tomorrow and im trying to see what need to be fixed by the time i get back next month so i can take it back to ny

the p1870 codes is a transmission component slipping problem

Bill
Weren't we just recently talking about P1870? LOL

i've also notice that when im driving and doing about 40 mph and the rpg rev about 1 1/2, the car sounds and acts like shes choking and want to stall. you have to either gas her or let your foot off the gas and then give her more gas. do you know what might be causing that problem or may it be related to one of the codes i listed earlier?
