Base model vs GT

So I was trying to find out what makes a GT a GT. In previous vehicles I have owned usualy a GT had a larger motor, more HP or some body appearances that made it distinct from the Base model. I have looked into it and it seems the base model and the GT are pretty much one of the same.

I know the differences between GT1, GT2, GTP and comp G. But I would like to know why my insurance company would like so much more out of me because its a GT when I really see no difference between the base and GT. Same engine, Same HP, Same look, same parts, same car but with 2 letters?

My only guess off the top of my head is perhaps different gear ratio giving it a more go? I dunno, thats why i'm posting this thread which perhaps after typing all this, I should have searched as my guess is i'm not the first to ask this.

The only GT that should make the insurance go up would be a '06 GT which was supercharged. Other than that its just features.

OK.. so what features are on the car making my insurance higher. There is something making the GT more expensive.

I could be way off but I would say the features would make the price increased because... options like leather, HUD, and others increased the value of the car. The higher the value of the car, the more higher the premium. Moonroof could also be part of higher insurance as the integrity of the car if in a roll over is compromised.

Yup. You are right.. Well now I know.. I have the base model. lol I'm still new to the whole GP and I read a bit of the ever so trusting wikipedia... If you read close, the 2004 section does state mine as a base, then in the 2005, it states that a Base model was below the GT which was the same as 2004.. Confusing i guess.

ALright.. Now I have seen 04+ GP with steel rims and hub caps. Did they come out with several different wheel packages. I looked at many pics and it seems the OEM wheels came in variety.

Yep it all depends what was picked at assembly. Different trim levels had "exclusive" wheels that couldn't be bought through other trim levels. My car is a base, but I've added in some GT options.
