Backup Camera Install



You don't even need to be good with electronics to install that. And sorry, I cannot help with the winter problem, yet. Hopefully I'll have that solved by next year. Stay tuned.
 
I would be in for a group buy on the resolution for a winter problem.

Well I just wanted to see what other people's experiences were with the installation and/or camera itself. The head unit is being installed as we speak. So I'll be sure to show give a review on that as well. (Not sure if anyone cares really but I like to look for reviews before I buy.) The head unit does have the camera input so no worries there. I believe I would hook the camera power up through one of the tail lights. (the reverse light of course) and find a separate ground / make one.
 
I would probably hook the power up to the headunit as well that way it should always be on whenever the HU is running so you could see behind you even without backing up.
 
Don't quite get why you would need one unless you have a walled off car... As for the reverse lights should be fine as long as the camera doesn't take allot of power
 
typical the cams run of just 12volt very low amperage, in my 97 i had ran my power and turn on off the reverse lamps. its do-able
 


I ran 2 wires to the back of my car. One wire was the power for the camera, so I could view behind me without being in reverse. The second wire was my trigger wire that was hooked up to the reverse wire. I grounded the camera on a bolt on the trunk lid. I mounted the camera on the bottom side of the reverse light. I actually removed it from the car (really easy), refinished it (cuz it was faded) and mounted it off the car just for easier working space.
 
There is a tool that most auto part stores carry that is not too expensive. It's basically just a simple circuit that when grounded, can light a bulb when applied to wires with current. Just put the parking brake on/Chock the tires, unplug the light bulb, leave the car in the start position (DO NOT START THE CAR) then put the car in reverse. that tool will light up on the correct wire
