autozone... lol

gtpinsc

resident snitch
so i did a plugs, air filter and oil change for a buddy of mine in his dodge nitro 3.7. i sent him to autozone to get everything. i researched beforehand and saw that it took copper ngk's from the factory. anyways i tell him to get autolite iridiums. first the chick tells him that they come with double platinums from factory and suggested he buy those. where she got that from i dunno, my research even said platinums dont do very good in that particular vehicle.... second i tell him to get mobil 1 5-20.... she tells him that if he changes to synthetic he can never use conventional again and that it "eats" gaskets and for him not to buy that oil. third... i tell him to get anti-seize for the plugs... she then tells him to cover the threads which was correct... but then she tells him to put a lil bit on the electrode itself for "better startups".. then she tells him he needs and ignition coil... yes one coil. hmmmm thats weird cuz its a fukcin V6 and if he indeed needed them, wouldnt he need six? and i think theyre good for 100k miles or better and he only has 60k miles... nevertheless i went back to the store with him and exchanged and returned **** not needed and had a lil talk with the manager. he apologized and said he would have a talk with her. to give ppl information when u have no clue what ur talkin about isnt cool in my book. :th_thumbsup-wink:

From my experiences at Autozone, the clerks will basically tell you what you want to hear weither or not they know the answer. To test my theory I went into an Autozone knowing the answers to a couple questions just to see weither or not they were gonna tell me what I wanted to hear so I could by crap or just tell me they dont know the answer. They failed.

theyre retarded. i called the other day for a uim gasket right, dude says its n/a and i had to buy the whole thing i laughed. looked on the website called back two minutes later same guy answered i said hey i got that part number. he was dumbfounded:th_shakinghead2:

they should have to take some kind of mechanical aptitude test before hire.. however i must say o reillys in my town is the ****.. all their employees are pretty smart and mechanically inclined. my buddy had a discount coupon for autozone so he wanted to go there.

Napa is my place of choice. A bunch of old-timers work there so you can tell how much they know by counting the wrinkles on there forhead.

Its not the store's fault, NITROS SUCK. I had one for about 6 months and got rid of it. All I did for maintnance was an oil change, but it was the poorest manufactured vehicle I had ever driven. Cheap plastic everywhere! No balls and a dodge trans, no thanks.

I understand your frustration. I work at a parts store and get to deal with all kinds of other people's goof-ups. Usually, what the counter person tells a customer about a certain vehicle is based on what information shows up on the screen. If that info is wrong, what he/she tells the customer will undoubtedly be wrong. From experience, I've learned that most Chrysler vehicles come from the factory with copper plugs, but someone that doesn't have that knowledge will just read what's on the screen.

The other stuff... Well, she probably needs to find a different line of work...

One of the guys i work with does that....

Works so well its unbelievable.

Most of the time the customer doesnt even return the product.

The AZ I have to deal with through work has one competent person. A couple weeks ago one of the clerks tried telling me an '01 Monte Carlo does not have a servicable transmission filter........

I can understand working at a parts store and not having any mechanical experience....But when I have to use YOUR stores computer to show you a part number, you should be fired instantly.

Actually...when I was hired at Autozone...it is in the main pledge that you aren't required to know ANYTHING about cars...but just follow what the computer says.

It's pretty failproof right?

Wrong. Since half the time your searching for parts and you want a blower motor resistor for example and it znet pulls up 20 things for WEIAND 6-70's...

yeah i go to advanced now. it was just nice cause autozones like 2 miles away, advanced is like 10 whatever haha. but i got this dude who works for a place like napa he jacks parts i can get most anything for like 70% off its strait. got 4 rotors and pads retail like 200$ for $65

yeah why not? will i get in trouble ?:th_nervous: i didnt name the biz, person, or where. just throwin it out there .. dont hate :th_nanana: hahaha

i only go to napa.
my autozone story... i went in to buy 4 headlights for my 72 gto, the kid pulls up his numbers goes in back and give me 2 headlights, and says that the computer said my car only comes with 2 headlights and that I have no idea why i would need 4.

:th_gun-pistols1: autozone

Around here you want to go to Carquest/Napa/Oreily's. Most of the people there at least know a little about cars and won't spew bull**** to you.

It also helps having friends working at Carquest to give you pretty much wholesale prices :)

Its funny you guys say these things.

Because the parts stores you guys dont like probably have at least one guy per year come in and ask for a turbo belt.

I've heard it before, and i'm sure i'll hear it again.
