Hey everyone, I have an 06 GP GXP an have only had it a few months. The owner pervious to me had HID headlights installed yet I'm having a slight issue with these. I looked/searched the forum for an answer so I'm resorting to making a new thread. Anyway, The only issue I am experiencing with the HID lights is that when I have the lights on the "auto" setting, only my left side light works. Yet if I manually turn the lights on, both lights work fine. Another note, This only happens during the day! If the car is on auto, the moment it gets dark out both lights will turn on but when its dusk or overcast, only one works. Is this an issue with the auto light sensor? Has anyone experienced this before? Any help would be appreciated!
 


I had this same problem with my car and i was never able to figure out how to fix it. People told me to add a harness(went with a TRS one) but that didn't fix it. One day they both just stopped working so I just ripped the whole hid kit out and went back to halogens. Hopefully someone can chime in because i'm interested in possible adding HIDS back in.
 
I mean, its not a major inconvenience or anything, but I would like my car to look proper and not half a$$. Sucks you had to rip them out.
 
During the day, your daytime running lights are running in a lower power mode. Cover your sensor on your dash so your lights receive full power. Eventually your ballasts are going to crap out if you keep going like this.
 
Yeah, But if I do that, then my headlights are on all the time. So what you are saying is that the sensor and auto system was obviously designed for the halogen head lights not HID, thus the issue and ne remedy?
 
You can still turn them off on the switch I'm pretty sure.

Another option is a relay harness and a capacitor link, which provide the ballasts with full power when the DRLs are on and the cap link filters the DRL signal so you don't get flickering.

No matter if you have HID or Halogen, your lights are on all the time unless you manually turn them off like Russosaur said. I have halogens and I absolutely abhor DRL's so during the day, I turn the headlights off when I put my car in gear or just turn on the driving lights which turns the headlights off and the parking lights on.

It's your choice what you want to do, I just gave you the quick easy solution for your problem. There is a write up out there for disabling the DRL.
 
So the auto setting will only work for the stock lights then? Its just because the HID's require more power, correct? If I put in the relay harness then my lights are on all the time in the auto mode. I was hoping that there would be a way to correct it so the lights worked just like stock. I don't really want my head lights on all the time, especially during the day when they aren't needed. Manually turning the switch isn't a great amount of effort either, I was just hoping there would be a way to fix it.
 
You can put the halogen bulbs back in if you wanted. Your options are to deal with turning them off every time or lookup one of the "how to" threads to disable the DRL.

Mostly it doesn't work because iirc the DRL lights use a pulsed voltage which run the lights at about half power. Enough to be visible in the daytime, this isn't enough for the HIDs to fire sometimes which is what your seeing. It also can be because of poor quality ballasts and bulbs.
