Audio Overhaul.. got some ?'s...

well i searched and searched and searched :th_laugh-lol3:

here's the background...
2001 GP GT, steering wheel controls, no BOSE or monsoon, or whatever they call it :th_laugh-lol3:, both door speakers are blown, steerng wheel mute button no longer funtions, and everything on the stock radio is just fine... but i just want to have all sound back... so i will be replacing the speakers and HU...

now i dont need anything crazy and im talking about basic, basic, basic equipment here... My TBSS is my toy, the GP is my DD, so i just want my tunes back and nothing too drastic.. i know the doors take 5.25" speakers (or 6.5" with a little modding), and then there are the tweeters up top by the mirrors, and the back deck has the 6x9's (which are still functioning so im not going to replace them)... i also read on here that some of the '97-'03 models RAP's are controled through the BCM and that when going to an aftermarket HU with the cheapy wire harness the RAP's and chimes remain, but just the HU turns off... is this true? I dont care for the steering wheel controls (especially since some of the buttons dont work), so i dont need a harness for that.. and to my understanding, my car doest have BOSE... i dont see an amp anywhere in the trunk, or inbetween the 6x9's.. there is this little cover on the drivers side of the trunk that has some kind of equipment in there.. not sure if thats the onstar, or the BCM.. but its on the drivers side... and as for the HU, i just want a basic single din, cd, and a usb port for my flash drives.. thats all i want lol... nothing fancy by any means... im really lookin to spend less then $200 total on this...

so... any suggestions from those that have upgraded... what speakers did you go with? did you do components, and replace the factory tweeters? what wire harness did you use to hook up your aftermarket HU? remember, i dont want bass, dont need DVD, HD radio, bluetooth, etc... capabilities.. just one cd, and a usb port..

alright well you dont have much of a budget here, so ill see what i can come up with.

~120$ HU. For the price it has some decent features. IF you ever decide to upgrade in future, sub, 4chan amp, whatever else, this HU will have everything you need so wont have to buy another in the future. Never really been a fan of pioneer/kenwood lower lines.

JVC KD-R730BT (KDR730BT) MP3/CD/USB Car Stereo w/ Pandora Control

that leaves ~80$ for front speakers. At this price Components are a no go. Coax will do.

Polk Audio db521 5-1/4" 2-way Speakers (Marine Certified) (db 521)

Total is ~180$. You will need a basic wire harness and Dash kit. Might put you a little over $200 all said and done. No idea if your a bass head or not, but aftermarket speakers have less bass than stock since its not a paper cone. Without an amp, no matter which aftermarket speaker you pick, majority of the time you will notice a lack of bass. However you will have a lot more clarity in your music.

Yea bass isnt an issue for me.. I run 3 amps, all components, and 2 12's in my SS with a aero ported box tuned to 38 Hz and hit a 145.7 db on the mic at the passanger floor.. so im happy in my truck... the GP is strictly a DD.. so no bass or subs at all will be going in her trunk... and thats what I was looking at.. either Kenwood eXcelon or the jvc arsenal series... like I said.. im talkin basic functions here lol . Just a cd slot and a usb port and im happy lol...

Thx for the links.. I'll check em out when I get home from work... and the aftermarket HU require an attenna adapter correct?
