im looking to get headers soon, and i want to know how you generally go about installing them. if anyone knows any information on this that would be great. I just want to knowso i can decide if i should do it myself, or if it would be too big of a job.

That is a great write up. I have been thinking about getting headers too. I am worried about stripping the bolts that go into the head. Is that very hard to do? Any info on that would be appreciated.

Not THAT bad...it might be if you are still somewhat not familiar with the car since you have to remove a bunch-o-crap...

Just remember to...like they said use alot of PB blaster the night before ans soak all those bolts. You will most likely snap the ones on the crossover as I have seen them snap the 2 header installs already, so dont trip out if they do.

And to seal everything up real good the first time so you dont have to go back in and redo it ;)

Almost guaranteed one of the rear crossover bolts will snap. No biggie because you're completely removing that part anyway. No amount of PB Blaster was going to get mine out. Only a drill and some patience, since I still needed to use my rear manifold.

A trick I like to do with seized up bolts.
If you can get them to back out at least a quarter turn, hit them with blaster and tighten them back down. This works the oil into the threads, and repeat until they are removed. Now, if you can't get it to turn at all, you're pretty much hosed.

I got a complete new set of bolts with my TOGs. I had to reuse a few bolts that have things attached after you bolt down the headers, but I didn't strip or break anything. The biggest thing I'd suggest is plenty of PB blaster, and a cold engine.

hmm... gonna be a little rough. maybe ill just have my mechanic do it, my parents keep the mercedes in the garage and i dont know if have enough time. my car would probably wind up being off the road for like 3 days which i cant do. damn
