Is kuntzie or the guy with the Incredihoppidy 5 speed build or anyone who's done the 5 speed swap left on here. I have a question as far as what brackets from what car to use for the clutch pedal.

Alright sweet your still active on here. So anyways I have compiled a list of all the parts I need for the swap from your post on w-body forum and a couple other forums and so far this is what I have

-284 getrag transmission (Including master/slave cylinders, pressure plate, clutch disk, throw out bearing, jack shaft, ect)

-Pedal Bracket from 1st gen w body (modified)

-(2) 97 SE/GT drivers side axles

-3800 camaro flywheel machined to .840

-BOLTS

-5/16"-18 3/4" length.. grade 8 these are for the flywheel

-M8 x 1.25 18mm length.. grade 10.9 these are for the pressure plate.


If you could let me know if i'm missing anything that would be awesome.

I know you ran the SPEC clutch but I'm planning on putting this in an unmodified N/A DD car. From what I gathered from the Fiero community I can just use the stock 284 pressure plate and clutch.
 


You'll need a oil filter adapter from a Buick reatta. Also 2 driver side axles from a 97 gp gt with the 4t60. Good luck, its not an easy swap.
 
What is the hardest part. It seems like custom fabricating the clutch pedal mounting bracket and getting it and the master cylinder mounted are gonna be the biggest PITA. From what I could see in Kuntzies swap thread it looked like swapping the actual tranny and the axles is an in and out bolt up deal like it was meant to go there.

Another question I had was if I was to go with a 282 instead of a 284 does anybody know if I would still use all the same parts for the swap except obviously the clutch master/slave cylinders since the 284 has that wierd clutch system.
 
big question here. do you have the getrag tranny already? if not good luck finding one that works. one that works cost about what your car is worth.

Lets remember that one guy (red GTP) that ended up selling his and could never find a reasonable priced one
 


last one i saw for sale was 1200.00 and that was like 2 years ago.


crazy thing is i know where one is now. my friends brothers garage, its a Beretta z24 we are supposed to get back up running and then sell. when they parked it like 15 years ago the clutch quit working. its been garage kept the whole time too.
 
Its not a 284 if its from a Beretta. You don't need custom mounts for a 284 although you do need to mod the subframe. Like everyone says, good luck finding a good 284, I'm thousands deep in just the trans in my car.
 
No I don't have a 284 tranny right now. I know a guy who has one in a fiero (It is a 284 not a 282) with a overheated N* who will sell it for 800 if I pull it. My other thought was to use a 282 transmission until i can find a 284 in a junkyard (if thats even possible). But i only want to use a 282 if it would use the same axles, and clutch pedal bracket so that way when i find a 284 i can just swap it in without having tear the dash out all over again and then try to figure out what axles fit on top of that.

I know the 282 is not nearly as strong but i'm not at all abusive to my vehicles so hopefully it would hold up for a decent amount of time.
 
Not sure if the clutch pedal is the same, the clutch is definitely different. You would probably need custom axles for a 282.

cv axles from a 97 GP SE will also work but to the OP I honestly feel for the money and work involved I'd build me a nice 4t65HD...could almost buy a 1" chain for what 284's go for
 
Yeah if i need custom axles then i'll just wait for a 284. I really am hopeing to find one in a pull-a-part type junkyard where all the prices are the same so I can get all the stuff for 250 bucks instead of paying 800 for just the tranny and I'm a little worried about buying one that was behind a northstar as i'm sure it's been abused.
 
You could also look into the f23 fwd trans like the fiero guys. You would need the bellhousing from a cavalier or sunfire 2.2 non ecotec from 2000-02 and for the best gear ratios the trans out of a 2010 cobalt with the xfe option. I know it works with stock fiero axles so it may work with the 97 gt axles. Its also much beefier than the 282 and has been proven to handle a turbo 3800 in a fiero.
