Hi all.
I'm new to the forums and the proud new owner of a 1998 grandprix non super. So far i am amazed. From what I was told by the previous owner it has been chipped. It has an SLP ram air hood and CAI box installed. This thing goes like stink.I've been terrorizing my neighborhood for the last 2 months with it lol.pics will be up in the next few days as i am posting from my work computer and don't have access to my pics.
I have 2 small questions.I was wondering what the benefit would be of changing out the dexcool crap and putting in the yellow-green universal stuff?I ordered a 180 degree tstat from my work today(I manage an auto parts store).Going to drill it this evening. How many do i drill? One hole or two?
Ive already swapped out the coolant but ws just wondering the benefits of doing it would be and why drill the tstat?

Many Thanks
Gerry

No need to run a 180* stat on a N/A, let alone drill it. dexcool eats gaskets, plain and simple. either get rid of it or change it as frequent as regular coolant.

I am not the only one that calls it "crap" .I haven't done any mods except CAI and SLP ram air hood. The previous owner says the computer has been chipped but I don't believe him. From what I've seen there is no chips available at all for the grandprix.

These cars don't have chips nor can chips be installed on them. Your car has been tuned most likely. Either the PCM has been swapped out with a generic tuned pcm or someone has hooked up a tuner to it and gave it a custom tune.

Don't run a drilled thermostat or a 180* thermostat. All it will do is make you burn more gas and make your car take longer to heat up. 180* thermostat is only good if your track racing it all the time. It was use full to keep the engine cooler when people were first learning on how to tune this motor. It's not necessarily anymore.

You are probably right about the pcm swap as it has been relocated to inside the CAI box for some reason or another.

The PCM resides in the stock air box and inside an SLP air box. I switched from dexcool to the universal coolant from peak.

My SLP box and my brothers SLP box do not have the SLP logo on it. These are just plain boxes.

Post a pic of the hood on the car.

I tried last evening to post pics no luck. Can I post them from my dropbox?
The hood I have looks exactly like the GTX hood.
Grand Prix GTX by SLP
I also have the chrome 6 spoke wheels to go with it :)
All thats missing is the GTX badges and the red paint.
