antifreeze leak

I am not sure I am in the right spot. I have an 07 grand prix with 146000 miles on it. I am losing antifreeze but cannot find where it is going. The oil is fine but I do get a smell after driving it. Also when riding in it i can hear the water slushing around in it. Where should i start? Thanks for any help.

slooshing sound is air in the heater core. if the floor is wet the core is leaking.

if the floor is dry you need to get under the car and trace the puddle back to the source.

Check the radiator itself, especially where the plastic side tanks are crimped to the alum. core. Could also be a coolant elbow.

I'm betting on the culprit being the water pump. When mine was leaking I was going nuts trying to find the leak. I finally lucked out one day and saw it seeping while the car was running and verified the water pump was shot by popping the belt off and feeling the play in the water pump pulley.

Mother inlaws 02 GPGT had the coolant slowly leaking out. Couldn't find it anywhere. Rented a pressure tester from vato zone. Put some pressure on it and found the hose clamp on the upper radiator hose wasn't tight. Never noticed it because it would hit the trans housing and burn off. Never had a problem since tightening it.

The leak could be anywhere.

I once had a slow coolant leak between the interface of the block and thermostat housing. There must have been some imperfection and since it was metal to metal it would slowly leak out and evaporate on the engine. I just used some permatex gasket/sealant and it's been great since.

Could be a variety of places like the others have stated.

Depending on what coolants in it makes it easier to spot.. For example I use green and I can 9/10 spot it pretty quickly. If you can't find it that way.. Pressure test it and that should make it easily visible.

dont use that pour in fix stuff. that hurts the gaskets and doesnt really work good plus it gunk's up the system. do a pressure test. if you smell out of the back ed it might be the lower intake gasket. i had a very small leak on mine and it only smell anti freeze going 60 to 70mph. look all around in lower intake gasket too. make sure i had to change my lower intake gasket at 144,000 miles so your might be do

ever use blue devil? didnt think so, it works if you need it. its all thats holding my engine together.

if it needs lim gaskets thats another story tho.
