Anti lock braking system problem?

I have a 93 grand prix and ever since new when it was first started it would make that weird crunching like noise that means the abs was engaged. But recently it would only seem to go through the noise half way and not make the whole noise....does anyone know why that might mean? And also if i wanted to disconnect the abs where is the wire for that under the hood?
