Another Top Swap Post

So I've got the top swap hard parts ordered. The following will be at my door step next week. I am doing the swap on a 90k Grand Prix GT with 2002 Grand Prix GTP top end. This is heavily based on running a stock pulley w/ stock belt too. Some supporting mods that I have for this are K&N CAI, ZZP Powerlog, 3" Downpipe w/ high flow cat, and probably of no relevance, ZZP Poly Mounts. I feel no need to do cams, or any other engine mods, just strictly the top swap. Once I get the money for an MPS 3.8 I will run that and be done with modding the car but until then I'm running stock pulley to help the engine adapt to boost and fits my budget well.

Supercharger
Heads from SC motor
Valve Covers
Harmonic Balancer From the SC motor
Tensioner for SC belt
Idlers for Sc belt
Intake Manifold from the SC motor
Fuel Rails
Fuel Injectors
Supercharger Belt
Throttle Body from SC motor
*Engine cover (just a plus:D)
Supercharged computer
This is assuming that the supercharger is coming with a stock pulley mounted on it already.

I'm ordering the following parts soon from ZZP and I'm just checking making sure I got everything I need, here is the rest:

Coolant Elbows (upper/lower)
L67 Swap Kit (MAP extension, supercharger bypass connector to pcm)
Top Swap Gasket Kit (+ refundable core Top Swap PCM)
Rocker Bolts
Lower intake O-rings
GM S/C Oil
Vacuum line kit
Autolite Spark Plugs 104's
Copper Spray
ARP Assembly Lube
Injector connector adapters from zzp
Supercharger Bolts

Also getting the heads resurfaced at local machine shop and I will clean up all parts well and clean their mating surfaces.

Of course I have all basic tools necessary for install but lack the balance pulley so I will have to rent or buy it from some place.

Does this sound like everything I need or is there something I'm missing here?

Thanks.

I believe the n/a balancer you just need a basic puller for
I know the s/c engine you need a special puller for
and to put the new balancer on i am pretty sure you can just pressure fit it with the new crank bolt

When your talking about the SC engine what do you mean? Are you referring to actually removing the engine or are you talking about the pulley?

Also im no mechanic how do you pressure fit the crank bolt so it will work?

Ok basically the balancer is held onto the crankshaft via a bolt but its also a pressure fit meaning the shaft is slightly bigger then the hole in the balancer
Heres the shaft without the pulley

Heres one with it on

To put the Balancer on from the S/C engine you will need the Crank bolt for the s/c engine zzp has them they are like 9 bucks
you line up the pulley with the keyway on the shaft and thread the bolt in and impact comes in handy here
heres a pic with the bolt in place
Gpona.com has the gm service repair online if you sign up there you can get all the gp repair info you need

I used my L36 balancer bolt on my L67 balancer, worked just fine.

You might want to skip on the plog and d/p and just get the headers instead.
You should also get a scan tool such as an aeroforce.
Don't get a zzp pcm, If your set on getting a pcm canned tune, get an Intense one or have a local tune it for you (if you know they're good).
You really might want to consider 1.8 or 1.9 rockers, the less knock the better.

There is no point in getting a mps pulley if your not going to be changing them. Save yourself the money.

oh yeah, and the balancer puller only costs $20 or so, you need one that looks like this

oh yeah and good luck getting the bolt out...I ended up using the starter trick, impact didn't do ****, except help putting that bolt back in.

Since I won't be taking out my engine can I remove the passenger tire to do this?

yeah, passenger tire, and that plastic cover piece, under the splash guard, its held in with 3 plastic clips, make sure the balancer is the first thing you do when doing the swap, just in case you need to do the starter trick.

With all due respect 99prixgt I do not wish to mod my car any further then 3.8. Although you are correct, headers would eliminate knock better, I will stick with a Plog, simply because money is an issue and I don't have 300 extra. Now lets say I run into more money down the road? Well then maybe ill invest in a 3.8 pulley. To be honest with you thought 3.8 is just wishful thinking. A stock pulley is what I will be running and with my current mods knock will be of no concern. I just do not have the money to invest in rockers and knock-eliminating items when I won't have that much knock to be worried about in the first place.

What were specs on that impact? Also can you explain the starter trick a bit more?

the 3.8 pulley is the stock pulley size. That's why i said getting the 3.8 mps pulley is a waste unless your going to be swapping pulleys all the time.

you need a scan tool, it would be foolish to do the swap without one...

get the headers, you can find them in the f/s threads all the time lately, check zzp for black friday sales.

I think you might need to do some more reading on the subject also, if money is an issue then you really shouldn't be modding in the first place.

using the L36 your more prone to knocking, you really want to have no knock at all.

with the money spent on the plog and downpipe you can get some cheap headers that will work for the same price.

i HIGHLY recemend a scan tool. with the higher compression of the gt motor it is more prone to knock. you will chip pistions with to much knock. at the same time i would highly recemend custom tuning or your own tuner.

more people have had bette luck with the stock computer than the supercharger computer. maybe they will step in and clarify.

you need special tiny little bolts to thread into the crank pulley for the puller. you can order them at zzp or go to your hardware store and pick them up.

(3) Grade 8, 1/4-28 x 3” Hex head bolts The part that was an issue when i pulled mine was the puller didnt have the right size middle bolt so i cut my crank bolt and used it as a pressure point
