Another dealership rant??

Well not exactly...

I figured since everyone likes to bash dealerships (and most of the time they have a valid reason), I would pass along my tale of a pleasant experience with the dealership.

A year ago me and the wife decided we needed a bigger vehicle. She decided she wanted a Chrysler Town&Country mini van. I dis-like chryslers but its what she wanted so what ever. When we bought it we got a warranty with it.

So here we are a year later and there were a few things wrong with the van. I decided it was time to put it in the shop and get our use out of the warranty. I have had bad experiences with warranty work in the past so I was a little worried about how this would go. I had the wife make a list of all known issues with the van so when I made the appointment I wouldn't forget to tell them anything.
Here is the list

Front passenger wheel bearing was going/gone bad

Front controls for the rear AC didn't work at all. Would just blow hit air if set to front control.

Rear power hatch had an issue where it would "pop" when going up. As if the gear box was going bad.

Engine uses oil

Trans would slam into gear from time to time.

So the appointment comes and they give us a rental car. $35 a day. I was sure my warranty would cover the first day but following days was in question.
We dropped it off Monday at 8am.
They called me Monday at 2:45pm and told me they would need it on Tuesday also because they were trying to find all the issues.
Tuesday comes and no call of the van being done. Again at about 2:45 pm the same guy calls and explains they will need it again on Wednesday because they are having problems identifying the issue with the trans.

Wednesday at 10:30 am they call my wife and tell her that they fixed everything that was covered, but the rear lift gate was not cover and it would be $375 for them to replace the motor(which was the issue). My wife tells them no but thanks. It really wasn't a huge deal. So they call back an hour later and the guy says " I spoke with the service department manager and he says we can do it for our cost which is $250." My wife tells him again thanks but no. Then he tells her it is all fixed and ready to pick up. She calls me at work and tells me after work we will go pick it up. I tell her ok, cause I wanted to find out exactly what they replaced.

So we get there, I talk to the guy that had been calling, and he pulls my paper work. Then he tells me that they could find no signs of oil leaks/burning but they would mark it for monitoring over the next three oil changes that we should do there... Then he tells me that they found a small leak around the trans pan, that had caused the fluid to go low causing that issue. They replaced the pan, gasket, fluid, and filter.
Then he says the front passenger wheel bearing was indeed bad, so they replaced BOTH front wheel hubs. He said " We typically see the other fail shorty after the first one so we just went ahead and replaced both for you." I was like SCORE.
Then he says that the AC issues were caused by the PCM/BCM needing a software update.

Then he brings up the lift gate motor. He says" I don't know if your wife told you or not but that was going to be $375."
I said "Yea she told me. It's cool. Not a big deal."
He says "Well good news, we went ahead and did it free of charge. We are going to absorb the cost of that for you."

At which point I was like 0_0

Then he tells me they were going to cover all my rental car costs. 0_0

So I walked outta there spending only my $100 deductible...

Just thought I would share. They did good by me.

You know.

You did this entire spill without even naming the dealership.

But otherwise; you're right. ***king score. Glad you got it all figured out.

Now as the oil leaking issues that we've discussed...how bad does a pan gasket change look?

Idk about the pan gasket yet... It is due for an oil change before our yearly trip to MO in a few weeks and I will check it out then... IIRC I looked at it before and I don't think it is leaking, I am fairly sure it is burning it slowly. I will be pulling plugs to check them..

Also since you mentioned it, the dealership was Harold Ziegler right by Rivertown Mall for you locals.

The reason the liftgate got done....they already fixed it before realizing it wasn't covered. It used to happen more often than I care to admit when I worked at a dealer. It's still a score for you, but that is why it happened.

There are some dealerships that aren't well known trying to make it, and are usually the ones filled with jags. The one I work at, we need to get a 100% costumer satisfaction or **** hits the fans in whatever department....Glad to hear you ran into some luck at the dealership. Scooooooore

Congrats! It's funny to me that people hate dealers, mechanics etc.. and the car is dumb or a pos when something wears/breaks. Things wear/break and people fix it.. it can be a good experience.

sadly ive had lots or warranty work done to my trucks, not every experience is a winning moment. 99% of the time it was a fight as they say"we cant find what your talking about" and they've had the truck for 5 days already.

one of my fav's was they did work, took the plug wires off, broke said wires, then wanted me to pay for new wires, im like really? your fing kidding right? you broke them, not me...... they weren't kidding. they wanted 90 bucks for a set of 8 6 inch plug wires, i was like ill bring my own. then the problem was still there after i got the new wires on it, yes i had to put my own wires on it too, that they broke, and i replaced. god times buyer brothers, f ing assholes!!!!

its a sad when when the customer needs to show up and teach them how to diagnose a slipping tranny, so i could get my free new one. then they rebuild it, and the pump whines like a dead cat stuck inside it, good work boys, now do it again. this trans job went on for over a month, and they broke my t case and patched it up with epoxy. they were then reported to GM, and yes i got a new T case installed. they were not happy i called GM at all, but like i told the manager, you guys are fvcked up thieves who do shotty work at best, who else should i call?

im glad a dealership did right by someone, really i am, it dont happen nearly enough.

Yeah, cool story bro! Hahahaha, always wanted to say that! : )

But like anything on the net, not too many share their good experiences online, only the bad.
So it good to see something positive posted! : )
Personally, I've had both my good and bad experiences with dealers and will leave it at that, lol.

Nice, glad they fixed everything for ya. Not for sure why they couldn't cover the motor, if most of its covered, it should all be covered. :th_shrugshoulders: Makes me think they were trying to pull one over on ya and when you didn't do it, they covered it like it should have been anyways so they could get paid for the job.

Glad they did both hubs, most dealership I hear about usually only replace the one in question, if the other goes out within warranty they will fix it then, known issue of not, unless its called for in the service bulletin most shops won't touch it.
