• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Another bites it

A couple weeks ago Heath and I helped a local GP buddy put a transmission into his car. He got it a while ago as a built trans. There was an odd wobble in the driveline once we got it in and on his way to work the second day something banged and there was no more movement in any direction. He asked me to pull it and go through the trans to fix it. Tonight it jumped out in about two hours and I started to tear into it.
The pan, clutch material and sparkling metal pieces.

This would be the view when you pull the cover off the side of a tranmission. The channel plate is the broken item we see.

Pulled the pump, valve body, channel plate. Found a 15/16" chain a bit out of it's normal position. Took out the fourth assembly and gouged up the trans casing.

Unsure which chain this was, made in Canada.

A lot of work later it came loose, there is more damage to the fourth assembly if we look down into the leg of the trans.

Mike is looking for a new trans...

Stock.. he has a wizzair and the SD headers were put on at the same time. He didn't have a chance to put any power to it. The damage had to have come from the previous owner as he bought it used.

And THAT is why I refuse to use a 15/16" roller single chain set in my rebuilds! Chains make a big mess in a hurry and can do a lot of damage. If you dont have enough extra parts in your stash let me know

are these trans pretty easy to rebuild. mine has 156k and want to build it when it goes out and do upgrades at the same time?

All transmissions are pretty much the same. You just have to take your time and take lots of pictures when you take it apart or just send it to dave and get a great transmission.

He recouped well. That was user Dagger. He picked up a V8 trans off another local and I swapped things over into a new casing. Last I heard a couple months back, he's still loving it.
