• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

And we wonder why these transmission have a bad reputation!

I tore this trans apart today and had to do a double take and look over it a while. It was from an 00 Monte Carlo and never been apart before so this happened straight from the factory. There is a solenoid retaining clip STUCK on the end of the afl valve which is viewable on the back side of the channel plate. This clip has no business being here and because of its location when bolted into the case was in a casting area not accessable unless the channel plate is removed. I have no idea how something like this got overlooked but Im sure caused a world of problems and if it ever went back to the dealer I bet they were lost! The clip had been clearly been there since day one because of the impressions it left and how the debris settled around it and it was clean under the clip where it was laying. It was holding the afl valve open a little bit and when this valve sticks it can cause slippage and 2nd gear starts. I bet this trans worked like a dream!

maybe that guy at GM who was building it on the line got laid off that day and just didnt care anymore. lol

Haha wouldnt suprise me! It likely didnt just fall into place because the valve had tension on it though I supose if it someone was dropped in that cavity during assembly it wiggled its way into position as the valve moved while in service.

Dave, I bet you have a ton of such stories and pics. Im sure you could keep us entertained for quite some time with all the strange and odd stuff you have seen.

haha we used to find all sorts of weird objects inside cars from the factories,

customer complaints i have had were " they say the driver/passenger door rattles" adjust as necessary. i pull the door panel and there is a crushed up beer can! the door panel was never off prior to this the car had roughly 2000 miles on it

ive found a fork, some safety glasses, a gm work shirt, pens, change and a name badge. these were all separate cars all over years but its just funny as hell what these guys lose or do on the line.. we always said depending on what day your car was built would determine the quality of it. meaning if your car was built on a monday or friday... your screwed but wednesdays were the best

One of the guys I work with was a GM tech working on Caddies. He told me a story of one car that came in 5-6 times with a funny rattling sound. He was the last person to take a look at it. There ended up being a beer can with rocks in it packed down into one of the pockets between the outer skin of the car and the fender well. There was a note on it that said "Congratulations! You found the rattle, dumba$$." I can just imagine some of the things other people have found in cars...
