I'm adding subs and an amp to my car. I was just curious where the best place to place the amp in the trunk was.
 


You should put the year and model of your car.

But if you have a pass through in the middle I have seen people hook an amp to the inner plastic piece and have it face the trunk using bolts on there to hold it on. so it's easy access to your amp settings.

That's only if your amp is small enough to fit on that piece though.

Otherwise the most common place is on the back of the box.

I'm sure if you searched around enough in the audio section you could find plenty of people's set ups and where they placed the amps, especially the "post up your audio equipment" thread.
 
there is no "best" place to put the amp. It depends on a number of things, like where the box is positioned, how many amps, how much space do you want to give up, do you want them to be seen to "show off" or hidden, do you want them accessible to change settings...etc.
 
It depends on how crazy your system is. I've had friends break amps from so much vibration of being screwed to the box. But 99% of the time there's nothing wrong with it
 
Really depends on what your placement of everything will be.

Me, I wanted a wide open trunk. Put the sub on the passenger side tucked tight to take no room, then inverted the amp under the decklid.
 


I have a 2002 Grand Prix GT. I would like it to
be visible and easy to access incase I need to do something with it. I guess a better question is what is A place I could put it since I have no preference
 
Because then it pulls forward into the cabin. Typically with all your levels and stuff facing towards the car.

Screwing the amp to the box is stupid and I would never, ever do it. All you are doing is causing additional stress to the internals of the amp.
 
if you make your box sturdy enough (like 1" birch, double mount baffle) the box should not vibrate. If it is, you are losing possible output and should build a better enclosure.
 
One of the bigger issues with mounting to a box is flexing. Whenever your box flexes, so will the amp. That's adding stress to the internal board and can eventually cause fractures or even failure.

Mounting on the box isn't the best idea.
 
yup flexing or vibration is bad for an amp. i have mine behnd the seats. not on the seats, between subs and back seat, so i fold down to tune.

I usually try to keep heatsinks facing up for cooling purposes. Amps that place heatsinks on the side vs. using the cover/face of the amp are easily placed. They're not as common though.
 
I can't even begin to stress how bad mounting an amp to a box in any way is on the amp. Mount the amp somewhere out of the way, where the amp can stay cool, and there is no stress on the amp.
 
i also agree on not putting it on the box, for the stress reasons mentioned above. i know my car is different, but similar to the pass through idea.. here is how mine is located in my 05
