aluminum subframe

Has anyone heard or has done this to their car. Aluminum subframe off of a 04 impala on the grandprixs. I heard its about a 25-35 lb drop in wieght alone and is suspost to be stronger/stiffer also. It seems like a good idea to help everyone and take some lbs off of these cars and help them on the street and track.

I was told that they do also. But I wasnt for sure on those. But would either one of the aluminum subframes work on the 98-03 gps? Would they bolt right up or needed modded to work?

you dont want to remove weight from the font end. we have enough traction issues as it is.

also, the aluminum subframe is known to crack.

Ok I didnt know about all that. I mite just forget about that then. I would like to take some wieght off of the car though. Would do you guys say to save some lbs?

go on a diet.

really, there arent a ton of places you can remove weight without losing its 'streetability'.

They are a pretty significant weight savings and if they were known to crack they wouldn't be on 01+ impalas and 04+ gp's. If you can get it for cheap and don't mind the hassle of swapping them out, then i'd be all for it.

I dont wieght all that much. Im 6'1" and 200 lbs. Thats not to bad.
I heard of taking out the rear bumper bracket and the sound deading under the carpet. But i dont know about all that. But the aluminum subframe would be a great wieght reduction and I heard they crack. But the monte ss hase the same motor and trans as we do. But the have the aluminum frame and I wouldnt see how they would crack. I know these cars have tracion probs.

Been there done that. I hear that only under a ton of HP mods they crack. Know a lot of locals with Stage 3 setups that never had issues. Not sure what it takes to crack one.

Its 20-21lbs lighter and you will need the bolts and bushings
Front Upper mounts #10402880 (x2)
Frontt lower mounts #10402882 (x2)
Rear upper mounts #10402881 (x2)
Rear lower mounts #10402883 (x2)
Front bolts #10403403 (x2)
Rear bolts #10410940 (x2)

I didnt know that you would have to have everyhitng like that for the swap. Is it really worth the 20lb diff in wieght?

this thing is sounding more and more of a pain to do then I want. I just spent 200 on a alignment at the dealer. I know I got ripped off

I have a 2000 gtp. I dont think I have onstar??? Maybe I do and dont know it. But I doubt I do. Anything else I could take off?
