Air condition/vents smell when turned on! How do I fix?

Hey, I had a cheapo air freshener (Liquid in a can), and I used it for about 5 days. On the fourth day I turned on the AC and it smelled like vinegar!! Disgusting! Every have those sea salt and vinegar potato chips? It smelled exactly like that! It has to be from the air freshener.

Anyway I try to run the air for a few minutes to try to clear out the terrible smell. It doesnt go away!

How can I fix this problem? Is there a filter that I can clean? Where does the vehicle get the air from? (stupid question but I have never really thought about it)

Thanks for the info!

It sounds like it's from condensation staying on the evaporator. After a while, you get microbials growing on the core and it starts to smell. GM has a service buletin on this to install an "afterblow" module that keeps the fan blowing a little while after the car has been shut off.

You might contact a dealer to get the service information, they should be able to provide you with a document with a part number for this.
