Aftermarket Horror Story - Lesson Learned

I recently had my two front hubs replaced using aftermarket models. This was in early December, and I ran the rest of winter fine with my stock wheels and all season treads.

Until 2 days ago...

I decided I would swap back on my aftermarket wheels, seeing as how we've had a great few weeks of weather, time to get my moneys worth out of these wheels.

I had no problems placing the rear two wheels on and sinching them up, but something wasn't right about the front two. Both wheel lugs were tightened as much as possible, and I was getting a TON of wobble and rubbing from my tires. (PS - I used these wheels for 6 months last summer, without a single issue.)

So I drive my car to my uncles, figuring I've stripped a few bolts.

GUESS AGAIN

My car had two different front hubs, using two completely different thread patterns, and two completely different stud/bolts for which the lugs are supposed to thread onto.

My left was from, what the NAPA guy explained as "closest thing to these studs is off of a Subaru."

The right hub, BARELY fits stock studs, it took a TON of yanking and pulling to get the neural through the hub/rotor.

My left hub had metric studs, the right...we're assuming was standard as there was no impression.

ANYHOW, please if you ever need **** replaced, BUY GM!!!!!

I will be stopping down to where I purchased these hubs, and telling them to refund me asap, as well as calling my local GM dealer to have this job done properly, at the price of an arm and a leg Im sure.

My car is up and running again, 3 different sets of lug nuts for 4 wheels later.

done venting.

Sorry, they were NOT Napa hubs...I'm not even sure what they were...I went to NAPA for replacement studs

a shop did the work...

this took me two days to get straightened out too! do you think i could find these "subaru" type studs anywhere in town? hell no...

So the shop took off hubs, noticed the new ones weren't the same as the old and put 'em on anyways?

What a ratarded tech!

Doesn't seem like a problem with aftermarket parts. Seems like a problem with an incompetent mechanic. I use Timken or SKF hubs in my cars when needed and have never had a problem anything like this or had to replace any one of them again. Don't let the dealer rape you. Just buy good parts and put them in yourself.

i would probably go up the the mechanic(hes not a tech, just a mechanic) and punch him straight in the nose until it bleeds, then keep doing it. we have a guy at work that replaces steering shaft u-joints on every truck he touches. loose or not. hes like the teachers pet in high school. now hes just the foremans lil B***h. we work at Marten Transport
