Hey,

I am pretty new to this car, but I've owned a couple of Bonneville's in the past...but anyway...

I have a 2005 Grand Prix GTP CompG and I want to install my aftermarket audio equipment in the car. I want to rentain on the functions the car came with. I have the Monsoon system, with On-Star.

Which factory integration module should I get? All the reviews I have read on the Metra one suggested in the FAQ on this site say it is crap. I am installing a head unit and a sub/amp. I am not touching any of the speakers yet.

Also, what is the difficulty of the install with all of these data adapters? I have done many old school installs with harnesses, but nothing with this stuff.

Thanks for the help!

Ah I see. I just replaced everything so i didnt need to use any factory harnesses so no idea if they work well.

How "aftermarket" do you want to get? If you want increase in bass, just use a "high-low" adapter with your rear speakers to amp/sub setup, if you're looking to change out everything including deck, and speakers, that's going to be a tough one as a deck will only power 4 speakers, on top of that, your monsoon system might have different "ohm" speakers that would potentially blow your deck- so you'll have to get new speakers. Plus, you have 7? 9? speakers, so you'll definitely need another amp as well to power those other speakers.

Well if your just replacing the factory speakers the monsoon amp will do "ok". Wouldnt be as clean or maybe loud as diff after market amps but the monsoon can handle the upgrade. as for adding a sub you are still going to have to add pac box or something like the jl clean sweep if u plan on keeping the factory headunit.

if you are talking about the data bus interface, and steering wheel control adapters, they aren't for noobs...the data bus gave me some trouble, and i've installed about 5 stereos before this vehicle. just do your research before you buy it. if you have the monsoon amp, you need the gmos-04 data bus. if you do not, then you need the gmos-01 data bus. any other ?'s let me know...
