Aftermarket Amp Question

i am looking at purchasing a 2002 GTP 40th Anniversary Edition (w/o Bose or SC) and am wondering where on the firewall is a good place to drill a hole to route either a 1/0 or 4 gauge amplifier wire? i know the battery is on the passenger side, but so far i cannot see any good places to drill or just slit and pass thru. i know i dont want to run it in the door jamb. ANY HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED :th_winking:

That will save you a lot of problems, just peel the carpet back on the passanger's side and you will be able to feed the wire through there.

Thanks for the help i will look for that once i get the car. Also, does anybody know if i can mount a set of 6 1/2" speakers to the door sheetmetal itself? i dont want to modify the stock mounts unless i have to and 5.25" speakers aren't really big enough... :th_shakinghead1:

Yes, it is possible. There is quite a big opening there, you could just cut yourself out a mdf ring to go around it. That's what the holes in the panel look like...

I just hacked apart my plastic pieces to make them fit. Lol

will that opening fit (top mount depth-wise) some nice pioneer or rockford fosgate 6 1/2 inch components and what plastic pieces are there? also (sorry so many questions) is there any way of removing or disabling the HUD system and OnStar systems? those are nothing but wastes of metal and silicon in my opinion :th_winking:

Yes, my alpine type-r's fit in there with lots of room to spare. There are basically adaptor plates made out of plastic that you mount the speaker in and mount to the sheet metal. Nothing a pair of side cutters won't fix. Lol you should just be able to unplug all of that and hae no problrms.

I've got the power wires running down the passenger side of my '01. There is a rubber grommet on the firewall that you can pop out, make a hole, and run your power wire through.

Keep the speaker wires on the other side of the car to prevent interference.

first off, thread is a tad aged.

second, see pic above.

third, speaker wires dont need to be separated, the RCA's do... but if they're properly shielded then it wont matter.

just to clarify, does the dash front panel (front purple piece on my gtp) just pop off (relatively) easily? i dont want to break anything when i install my new receiver
in a few days
