Aftermarket amp on a oem stereo

I was wondering how hard would it be to put a aftermarket amp on a oem stereo on a 06 gp without factory amp. I checked around and i cannot find any threads on this. I was also wanting to keep from cutting wires also.Do they make a harness for the speakers to keep from cutting wires? Thanks for any help on this.

You need a line converter to do so.

Some amps have line level inputs. I would get a deck first. Adding a deck only ups sound quality way more than a sub. If you just want thumping bass ignore me

I dont know about 02s but the factory stereo in my 07 ain't that bad and a simple added amp and sub would make it sound pretty darn good.

Maybe the newer stereos are better. I am comparing an aftermarket deck to the stock stereo in my 02. Personally I would go for components and a deck before a sub but it all depends what your goals are

i popped in all new speakers a amp and sub with a single 12 inch and its a load better then it was.

I did exactly what you want to do.. only downfall is i think it would sound better with an aftermarket radio. Go to your nearest junk yard, find/pull out the radio, unplug the plug and cut the plug from the harness. This way you dont have to cut your stock harness. You can pop the wires out of that plug/original harness in the car and insert them into your new plug. You will need a line converter if the amp you get doesnt have line level inputs, i used a 4 line (4 speakers) and that converts it to RCAs that run to the amp. I actually ran new 14ga speaker wire to each speaker to from the amp. 400W Amp, 100 Watts RMS per speaker. Yes im deaf now. Dont know what way your going exactly so just ask

Unless your talking about a factory radio from the 80's you won't be able to tell the difference in sound quality if it's installed properly. Especially with the amplifiers made these days with 5-6 times the distortion, no headroom and just about 0 damping factor.

I can somewhat agree with this.. I just replaced the factory bose setup with all Rockford fosgate speakers on a pioneer 4-channel amp and aftermarket deck. The sound clarity and loudness has increased much, but the woofers aren't putting out nearly as much sound themselves as compared to the bose setup.

Then you did something wrong. I hope you removed all of the Bose equipment as they typically have an amp at each speaker. Bose is a totally different animal. They use crappy speakers in properly designed enclosures with matching crossovers to get the great sound they do. But if you are saying that you removed everything and you only have your stuff in there now the. It's your installation that is the issue. Subs can be wired out of phase (common), the enclosure can either be too large or small for the driver, the crossover could be adjusted improperly, there is a lot. Then you have to look at the amp what are the specs on the amp itself. I have seen amps these days that have THD in the over 1% range with dampening factors of less than 100 and signal to noise ratios in the 80's and channel separation comparable to a mono amp driving 2 seperated speakers, if you catch my drift.
