afew issues

hey everyone. first i would like to thank all those who offer up suggestions. i have afew problems and a few questions.my gp is a 1998 se 3.1.
first the problems:
1 - i have bouncy idle. it is worse at operating temps. and is now starting to cause the car to stall alot. once i am moving its ok, but lacking on the acceleration the last few days.
2- i have an awful tick from somewhere around the front valves. i believe it to be a valve as when the engine is at temp the noise decreases. but i've been told that it could be a piston.

questions:
1- when doing a cai, what do i do with the computer thats inside my stock air box?
2- can i just remove my maf? and what direction is the arrow on the maf supposed to point?
3- what is the procedure for removing the cat. conv.?

ok. after following some advise that i've read, i removed the maf to clean it and discouvered that it was installed backwards. car idles great now. but the acceleration has dropped badly.

Answer to your problems is we could use a video of the noise or if it has any SES codes on...get those read and tell us what they are...

Questions...

1) Leave it where sat...mine never moves...ever. If you feel the need to then zip tie it or something.
2) WHAT!? You need the MAF or your car won't run...or if it does run it'll run like epic crap.
3) Go to exhaust shop, pay guy to cut it out and weld in a piece of pipe. It will throw a cat code on the dash (SES light)

I say change your plugs and wires...and possibly your coils/fuel filter...but you might just need a new MAF too.

thanks. i will start doing these things. even though the previous owners said they did a tune-up, to them that could just be an oil change. i have heard that if the cat is clogged it could be a performance killer. is there an advantage to removing it? and also there is no codes at all being thrown.

for some reason the 3.1 liters always tick, its the lifters but if its not that bad and goes away after it warms up, the hell with it.

That...and add a product called Lucas Oil Stabilizer...it is a big jug and you can buy it for about 10 bucks or so...just add about a cup or so every oil change...it coats the lifters and internal parts to reduce wear and noise emitting from them.
