Advice on Replacing ALL Steel Brake Lines

First, quick back story... When I bought my '98 Lesabre last summer, it already had a broken brake line, which I replaced. While driving into town one day, a brake line broke on me, pretty scary stuff. Nobody was hurt, and nothing was damaged, but I didn't waste any time replacing the rest of the brake lines when I got the car home.

Now, I recently bought a 99' GP GTP. The brakes work fine right now, but I see some pretty rusted lines. Since I have weekends to work on the car and it's not my DD yet, I figure it'd be great to just replace all the line straight away to prevent any mishaps. Ideally, I want as few fittings/unions/etc as possible, even if that means deleting a few from the stock configuration. I am comfortable flaring and bending lines, and bleeding the brake system.

1. If possible, I'd like each line to go straight from the ABS unit to the connector to the flex line that goes to the brake caliper. How close can I come to achieving this?

2. When I changed the fuel filter, I noticed a pair of proportioning valves that go to the rear brakes. Are these necessary to keep? If so, how do I deal with them?

3. Instead of buying brand new fittings, I'd like to simply re-use the fittings already on the existing line, provided they still look alright. Is this a considerable safety risk vs buying new fittings?

The factory paths do the best job to keep the lines safe from being hit and hurt. Although that rear right line over the subframe.... that one ... you should cheat on.,
 
So far, so good... replaced lines to both front brakes. Gonna do the rear lines tomorrow. I'm thinking I'll do the rears tomorrow. I noticed that the RF line didn't have a rubber component in it. Not much trouble bending/routing the line, those clips are just a PITA to get the line out of and back into. Should have safe, firm brakes when I'm done.
