Adjusting rear AJX's

I’m newb’n out today: First off, I did try to search for this specific information. I just put in a set of pogo washers on the AJX’s and set the fronts to full soft just to see what they were like. No big deal on the fronts: grab little screwdriver, push in, turn to 1, done. On to the rears, I put the adjusting knob on the top, turned it counterclockwise: no clicking or feeling any “bumps”, pushed down, turned the same thing. I would Ass-U-Me that as they are marked 1-4, there would be specific adjustments. Newb question: how the heck do you adjust the rears? (No, I did not install them, go ahead, let me have it for not doing my own) I want to get them to full soft then work them back to firmer to match the fronts. The fronts will end up set to 2 as the fronts have been set on 2 and feel fine. Frankly, now I’m not sure where my rears were.
 


There is a white dot on the top of the strut that will line up with the number on the adjustment knob so you know which number you are set at. I installed mine with the white dots facing straight toward the back of the car to make it easy to see what number I was setting it to.
 
If you pull apart the adjustment piece.. It basically rotates a metal piece, and its location is all that matters. The top part can get changed in reference to the metal part, which would throw everything off.


The part I don't know, is what direction the metal part points for each setting(1-4). If someone knows this, or can check that would be awesome.
 
There is a white line. Kinda hard to see but there is one. If the person who installed/assembled your stuff did it right you should be able to line up the white line under the knob with the number on the knob itself.
 


Thanks, for the responses. I'll get in there with a little mirror and some good light and see how they were positioned. Just a note: these things are like new with the pogo's. I was surprised of the difference.
 
There are only dots on the front shocks he is talking about the rears. The rear shock have a white line below the knob so you know what number the knob is on.
 
I'm putting in new bedroom furniture today (Ahh..The marred life) but I will get in the trunk and take some picks to show where it is this afternoon for those who will be looking in the future. Mine ended up having been turned so the white line was facing away. I was initialy looking on the top of the shock body and not on the piston rod itself. With the fronts and the rears set on 2, it makes for a very nice ride for DD use. Firm and stable but compliant.
 


Let’s see if this helps somebody down the road…

The White line “A” is only on one side of the Shouldered area “B”. If it not facing forward or the direction you want it facing, loosen the upper mounting nut with a wrench while holding the shouldered area with a wrench then point the White Line “A” by turning the wrench to the direction you want for easy visual confirmation. From reading, most set this facing directly to the rear of the car. After this pic was taken, I placed them what would be towards the rear license plate area, because when I stick my head in, I am looking directly at the number setting on the knob (Set at 2) seen in the photo.
After tightening everything back up, the adjustment knob can only go on one way: what ever number is aligned with the white line, is where it is set. Simply push down slightly and turn the number to 1-4. Be sure to set both sides the same.

I have a section of road outside of my home that has some 1-3 inch bumps for a hundred feet or so, after going over that stretch of road 2-3 times with the adjuster set at “1”, I set them at “4” to get the maximum amount of change. There was a clear difference with “1” giving me a clear late rebound compared to the fronts. When set on “4”, there was a clear skipping on the bumps showing it was clearly to stiff for typical posted speed limits. “2” settled the car very nicely for my typical daily driving.
Your set up and results may be very different: As always YMMV.

One thing I still haven't figured out.. If you pull apart the adjustment part.. What does the innermost part align with for each setting?
