Addco 639 rear swaybar install

Space Dynamics

New member
Hey friends,

I have a 01 GTP that I purchased an Addco 639 rear sway bar for.

The OEM bar looks quite different from the Addco unit. - and when I went to install the new bar, it seemed to be not quite wide enough to fit?

Did I get the right part, or is there something I'm missing?

Thanks!

That was a nice thread. Thanks!

Doesn't seem like anyone had issues installing their bars.

I'll give it another shot later in the week and see if I just needed to make some adjustments.

Seems like the only issue I read is the enlarging of the holes for the rear end links. Also maybe clunking against the exhaust. Interested to hear your thoughts on it once you get it installed.

Yeaaah gave it another shot. I could only wonder what happened when they made this one, but it definitely isn't wide enough. Picture is of the drive side, with the passenger side in the correct position.

Looks like Summit will let me return it so that's nice. Anyone happen to know the stiffest bar available after this one?

That is pretty disappointing. I heard good things about the bar. Perhaps try another one.

You can reference this thread. You can go GMPP or ZZP. I believe GMPP is hallow and ZZP is solid.

Swaybar Sizes

Looks like you just need to play with the adjustments more for centering, I think the collars go on first then the end links. Your picture comparing the two shows they are about the same width?

Yea I messed with it for a while to see if I was doing something wrong had someone guiding it on the other end, but it just wasn't going to fit. At the two ends the Addco is 44 inches apart, and the OEM is 46. I think that might not have been an issue if the Addco bar was the same shape as the OEM.

Anyways I already sent it back, and have a ZZP rear bar on it's way. Looking forward to it!

I'm a little late to the party here, but just wanted to say that something doesn't look right with the angle of the bar in your picture. It should slant down to the sway links from the bushings, it wont fit if you try and level it horizontally..

It probably would have helped to see what was going on on the other side of the car, but doesn't matter now I guess.

We purchased the same Addco bar, ours fit with no issues just a couple months ago.
(painted red because my kids decided it was a drum and chipped the paint :th_doh:)

Did you change your sway links and were they installed correctly?
Just trying to think of reasons it would seem to short, reversing a sway link would definitely shorten the reach..

Hopefully, your next installation attempt works out better for you, though those other bars are definitely a downgrade in comparison to the Addco.
