Can you add a hud to a 1992 2 dr grand prix se?
I just got this car...don't know much about them yet.
I found a cheap used heads up display for a 90 grand prix on ebay. Just wondering if the wiring is there so it's a plug and play?

Thanks for any info.....Brian

Keep searching E-Bay for a factory manual. You'll find the answer in there along with what you'll need to do it. I'm assuming it's plug and play but you'll also need the different dash componets.

Factory manuals go for $30-70 on E-Bay; new they were $125 plus, so they can't be beat.

Hello,
The short answer to this question is...yes you can. I did this with success in my car. You will need the following parts:
(1) HUD projector
(2) HUD metal tray
(3) HUD dashpad (the dashpad has a hole cut in it for the projector)
(4) HUD dimmer switch (this includes a cable that connects to the projector for adjusting the height of the display on the inside of your windshield)
(5) Modified plastic housing that surrounds your headlight and wiper switches (there is a hole in the housing underneath the wiper switch - this is where the HUD dimmer switch mounts)
(6) Mounting hardware (be sure to retain ALL of the screws if you pull these parts out of a junkyard car)

Your car *should* be pre-wired for the HUD projector and HUD dimmer switch. The easiest way to tell if your car has the wiring is to remove your wiper switch pod. Look for a wiring harness and plug in the recess behind the switch. It should be folded over and taped together. This is the harness that plugs into the HUD dimmer switch. Assuming you can get the parts from a junkyard car, this is a very easy thing to do. Some folks have cut holes in their dashpads and stuff like that, but I'd just recommend looking for these cars in yards. If you actually get moving on this project and need more specifics, PM me. I'd be glad to help. Dude, that HUD is the COOLEST thing once you get it installed and working.
If you want to install a Driver Information Center (DIC), I can help with that too. Good luck! Nice to see another 1st gen W-body owner looking to improve their ride.

I've been really wanting to do this too! HUD is so awesome. Its like piloting an F22 (or something like that XD). I so wish my trans am had it. I have no idea why they never came with it :P

not that i know of right off hand. i think the C5 corvettes had it. but im not sure. i only have experience with the C4 vettes. and im pretty sure some Cadillacs had it too

im planning on doing the L67/282 swap. does anyone know if the HUD will work with that setup? if it wont, then i dont want to put all the HUD stuff in and then have it not be functional once the car gets to screamin haha

I'll probably pick up the HUD stuff and add it to the gf's grand prix in the next week. Anyone got pics of a functional DIC? Is that something worth adding as well?

yes ive been wanting to try that out as well found an intact unit in a 93 gtp at the boneyard . i have a 2002 so it should work shouldnt it???
i have a crack in my current windshield so i can grab the windshield from the car as well.... understood all your instructions but not quite clear on the metal tray or the dimmer switch those should be on the car in the junk yard..

I'm planning on running to the scrapyard to grab the parts for the HUD and DIC in the morning. What all do i NEED for the DIC? The HUD seems pretty straight forward- already looked and the wires are there. Just got done doing the intake gaskets today, and just trying to make this a better car all the way around.
Thanks

im glad i stumbled on this thread! ive been wondiering that too before. i have the factory repair manuals so im going to start looking it all up

No. It will not work and neither will the windshield. 2 different body style. 9 years apart
