AC Compressor

So come to find out my AC clutch / Compressor doesnt work,

and i really dont have the time or money to get it fixed just yet, so I was wondering if it was a bad idea to buy a shorter belt and just bypass the ac unit entirely.

it makes an aweful noise like the ac clutch is trying to engague but it cant or wont for what ever reason. kinda like metal rubbing on metal.

Well hope to get a few answers. thanks!

You can't just bypass the a/c pulley with a shorter belt. Without it the belt would hit the water pump pulley as it goes up from the crank to the alternator. You have to use an AC delete idler.

i see, how difficult would that be.

im pretty good with cars and what not, so im not dumbfounded when i need to do something under the hood.

but like time period required to do this would be what at a rough estimate?

You need to have your AC system evacuated of freon. After that it's just a few bolts and lines holding the compressor in and you slap the AC delete idler in its place.

okay doesnt seem to bad.

i will see what i can get done this weekend,

seeing as how i work the rest of the week.

fun fun.

thanks for the help!

Damn, I wish I read this post before I changed my compressor. My clutch was making noise so I swapped it out for a new one. Figures, one of the rare times I don't keep something for a little while
