ac compressor kicks on when I turn on the heat

Well, my 04 gp, for the last few months I noticed that when i turn my heat on the ac compressor engages. Im just wondering what the problem might be, Ive seen this once before on one of my friends cars and it was the computer, but I just want to be sure. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm curious about this myself. About once a month, I'll look down and notice the AC's on for no good reason.

I've noticed this on occasion as well. I just thought that I'd been accidentally mashing the A/C button instead of the rear defrost, but maybe my car's possessed too.

With def, floor and def the compressor will run unless the temp is below 32 degrees.

Yea its "normal" but its a feature a lot of people dislike. Just be glad we can easily turn the compressor off if the climate control decides to turn it off. On other cars it comes on automatically and there is no way to shut it off from inside. I know guys who disconnect the compressor in the winter time to keep it from happening.
